I actually liked to take a drifting class one of these days, they offer it here but you have to used your own car, not brave enough to take my car yet.

the drifting scene is absolutely massive here in Ireland. every night you can hear people somewhere doign ti. The favoured car is the AE86 corolla. they have shot up in value and are fetching £6-7k which is unreal. i would love a go also but i don't have any cars to drift, slk has too many sfaety electrics to let you drift and caterham doesn't have a diff.

You can put in it dyno mode, it'll shut off all electronic gizmo's. I remember it was huge with the japanese import crowd some years ago, they would try to drift on exit's and I would see them hit the curb, etc.. It went unpopular quick on public roads (which is good for us), now most of them attend classes, which is the smart thing to do.

Guys ever heard of "Initial D"??

AE86 is the featured car in that series.

And so...

They made a real-life version of the show into a movie...funny thing is...this ain't a pic from the movie. I've seen one around Toronto too...

You know, change the car to Mars Red and put the top down, and that was me at the Mt. Sainai parking garage last month, with the same circular drive ups. It was loud as hell though, thankfully they thought it was the guy in the Camaro behind me. (You can't see the cars until they're at the opening.)

A benz wouldn't be doing something so tawdry!

Hmm, 13,000 miles and my rear tires are almost slicks. So much for harder rubber on run-flats.

When I was 13 Mom took me to an empty parking lot with the '84 Chevette and taught me how to drive. Then she showed me how to handle it in emergency situations, panic stops, sliding, etc. She showed me how to induce the sideways skid with the emergency brake then how to power through it and correct it.

I first really did the drifting myself when I was 16 with the Chevette on Gravel roads. It really scared my friends when I could pitch the car sideways at 70 MPH with the brake and keep it going. Then, many years in snow with mid-engine Fieros. Just turn the wheel slightly, and add throttle. I would drive Frank's youngest daughter to school doing every corner sideways, she loved it!

As I always say, sideways is not the fastest way around the track, but it IS the MOST FUN! I have already done some sideways in the SLK at the autocross, I wish they would have taken a picture. I cleared a cone with the rear bumper by about an inch.

I have a sign that says "Caution: Frequently Sideways".

I LOVE OVERSTEER!

Find a wet parking lot that doesn't have any curbs and hopefully few lights and practice there. You have to disable the nannies first.

Your mom is a great driver.

Yeah, going sideways was how I finished my last couple of laps on the autoX, it was quiet fun at a low speed, I'm afraid to do it at higher speeds, it really amazing me (the drifters) going 70-90mph, used their e-brakes to induced oversteer, and then power it out, controlled chaos.

I used to practiced drifting in the snow before drifting was popular but it's much easier to go sideways then going straight so not much skills are involved.
