Default AMG assembly line

This is an assembly line for the SL but it's very similiar to our SLK's, look at the quality put into it, hard to beat, enjoy

Beautiful assembly line! Very ergonomically designed; the workers do very little bending, twisting or lifting Do they test drive each car on the track?

Thanks for posting it, Ynot.

was that an AMG line (from the brakes) Or the normal production line.

I think the normal production line uses more machines.

Yep, very ergonomically indeed, no they randomly select cars, you'll know when you pick it up in Bremen or Sindelfingen, it's the ones with over 20 miles on them, mine had single digit miles IIRC.

Very interesting, very thankful for owning such an extrodinary vehicle thats built to top standards.

I think MB has done a good job with the electronics and problems I faced with my 99 ML W163 the SLK is built way better, especially the fit and finishing.

Not so sure about that. There is only one R171 production line for example, and all parts, the AMG ones included, are delivered to each car according to its build spec as they reach each station. So every car coming off the same line could be anything from a 200K with no options to an AMG with every option. Why would they do things differently with the SL?

Thanks for sharing, Ynot, very interesting video.

The scenes are cut very lean, but how do you want to put all information in such a short film?

I fear I am going to destroy an illusion. Steve is on the right way. Generally there are three manufacturing steps performed in different halls in the plant: bodyshell work, paintshop, and assembly. The first few seconds of the video only show the bodyshell work, the paintshop is completely missing, the rest is the SL assembling line.

Bodyshell work and paintshop are automated. These steps take place in two different halls which SL and SLK pass together. The systems perceive which kind of car is coming. After painting the cars are separated and the assembling is conducted in two different halls for the SL and SLK. We have seen the SL assembling line here, but the SLK line runs comparably.

So every individual SL or SLK finally comes from one line independantly whether it is a "normal" or a AMG car, even the Performance Package or other gadgets are installed there. If the AMGs are ordered with an "open" limiter, that means 280 km/h for the SLK and SL or 300 km/h for the SL, the cars are shipped to AMG in Affalterbach to do the software update.

You guys could be right the assembly line is probably the same, more cost efficient, but I guess the engine is hand made so uses less machinery, either way, looks like quality made.

Spot on there with the description. Well done

Not sure about the 030 pack info don't wanna really question you as you live there but last time i was at the plant the ECU's where identical and the correct software version was installed along with the rest of the cars operating system while on the line so once it reached the end all the systems would be married and operational. As of 07 the standard ECU's are no longer produced since the "gentleman's" agreement that governed the 155 vmax no longer applies

Right, the AMG engines are assembled in Affalterbach: "One man, one engine" The others come from Untertürkheim near Stuttgart and Berlin.

I was exclusively talking about the Bremen plant. And because today the weather was so fine, I have tried to take a photo of the body store.

You are right. It functions in your described manner. But the 07 cars are still limited. The lifting is conducted by AMG because of warrenty reasons.

If there is exsisting an interest, I will try to find some views around the plant.

Attention, SLs and SLKs are mixed up in the body store. Their ways are seperated after it.
