Default Diamond Silver vs. Iridium Silver- Pics Please

In preparation for my upcoming order of an SLK350, I am debating between diamond silver and iridium silver. My interior will be red. What is the difference between diamond and iridium silver? Can someone please post some pics showing the difference in these two colors? To me, the diamond seems like a lighter color. Thanks!

you can build your own from this site and compare:

http://www.mbusa.com/index.do

or a search of this and benzworld picture threads will get you some examples. one of those threads has the 2 colors side by side. will continue to search for you.

try these:

Default I have the Diamond Silver

The difference is very slight if you see the two colors separately, but very noticeable when they are next to each other. My wife has a C-class in Iridium and when it is parked next to my SLK, it is obvious that they are very different colors.

Diamond Silver isn't really lighter, but it has much more blue in it than Iridium which has more grey in it. I've attached two pix of my car in Diamond. The limitations of the Web may make it difficult to see the the exact color, but I hope you get an idea of the color. I liked the color so much that I special ordered the car in that color after seeing one on the lot. It is a rich and classy color (like the Iridium) and has the advantage of being slightly different and unique.

Thanks for the pics guys. I'll ask the dealer to put an iridium and diamond silver slk side by side to see the difference. I think most of the MBs I see on the road are iridium. The diamond is intriguing.

Personally, I prefer the Iridium Silver. They are both close in shade, but the Diamond Silver is definitely blue. One advantage of the Diamond Silver, no one can accuse you of having a silver MB like everyone else. Either choice would be a great choice. Both would be easy to maintain and wouldn't get too hot in the summer. Can you get Diamond Silver with the red leather interior? I love the Iridium Silver with red leather, WOW, what a great combination.

Be cautious if you look at a car inside a showroom. Many dealers have lighting that causes the colors to look much different than they do outside in daylight. It's not intentional it's just the color of the ceiling lights.

Good point Duo-Art. I'll make sure to see them outside.

i doubt a dealer would have a diamond silver in stock to compare with the iridium unless it was specially ordered or you got lucky for him to have one. out of 100 silvers i would think maybe 1 would be a diamond.

I have a diamond silver and alpaca interior. I have seen the diamond and red interior and actually think its a bad combination. If you must have a red interior get iridium.dslkt60.jpg

I agree with joyfulheart. I don't think the blue tint of Diamond Silver goes very well with a red interior.

I love that red leather interior. Looks good with the Diamond Silver in the photo. Not sure what it would look like in person. I'd take a chance. Regardless, you would have a VERY unique combination. I'd recently saw a dark blue (new) SLK 280 at the local dealer with brown nappa leather interior (with a great list of options). Dark blue and dark brown interior? Sat at the dealer for about three months during the peak summer months. Then it was gone. Sales person said they did a dealer trade. Didn't look terrible but not a great combination. I think the red with the Diamond Silver would be an OK/great combination.

I think that red leather goes equally well with Iridium Silver and Diamond Silver. The latter combination is a bit more rare, but I'm sure that you'd be pleased with it. However, this is one decision that, happily, you will have to make for yourself. Good luck! We should all have these types of problems on a daily basis! Dinoman

Diamond Silver does not photograph very well, or at least the color does not show as it looks in real life. Saying that here's a pic of mine.

Having seen one in person, I think the photo looks exactly like the real thing. I agree, get the red leather with either the Diamond Silver or Iridium Silver. No better combination available.

Well mine is Diamond silver with Alpaca grey interior and I think that is a great combination. Funnily enough its not the grey that is hard to keep clean but the black plastic stuff where some marks do not wipe off and I am thinking I may have to put some black polish on it.

Sadly I am getting errors trying to load pics of my car...hmmmph

When I ordered my '06 SLK 350 in August of 2005, I had never seen an R171 SLK with a red interior. After ordering my car, I saw two silver/red R171's, but still no Firemist Red/red cars. In several months, I will order an '07 Porsche Cayman with exterior and interior colors that I have never seen, either together or even separately (the interior is a special color, and the exterior color is new for 2007). Sometimes, you just need to make a leap of faith, and trust in your instinct as to what you might like. If you are happy with your taste in colors, and know what you generally prefer in the way of exterior and interior colors (e.g., light metallic exterior, darker interior to contrast with the exterior), you will most likely be pleasantly surprised when your new car arrives. Perhaps best of all, people will come up to you and ask where you found such a great combination ("All my dealer ever has in stock is -----with a-----interior"--you fill in the blanks). Dinoman

Here you go, this is the best representation of iridium and diamond I've seen to date. Both are pretty in their own way.

Ynot,
Thanks for the comparison photo. Now I see the difference. It's just a question of which one I feel will best compliment the red interior. I'll just have to see the two in person to really know. But the photo nicely reveals the grey undertone of the iridium versus the diamond. Its a tough call.

In that case, iridium will match with the red interior better, I'm no expert but the light bluish exterior will not match with red as it's dark, I liked to keep things uniform, light with light, dark with dark, etc..
