Ft Myers, Ft Lauderdale, Houston
I'm looking for a few willing volunteers who might be able to go look at a few 55s for sale in the above cities. I found the cars at great prices, but I'm a little reluctant to spend the money without getting a first-hand report from someone other than the dealer. If you live in Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale or Houston and are willing to make a short trip over to look at a car for me, I'd be grateful.
On a related note, I may sell my 2001 320 or I may keep it. I won't give it away to a dealer for nothing, but I might sell it if I can find a private buyer. 58000 miles, and absolutely nothing wrong with the car. Completely stock, except for a short antenna. Photo in my album. Completely up to date with service. Not due for another until 61000 miles.
And to think that you could have looked at Randy's black beauty yourself right here in ATL a few months ago. Jeesh, some people have to make things difficult.

Hey dj - I'm headed over to Houston towards the end of the month, and would be more than willing to look around for you.
FYI, there's a Mars Red SLK55 that's been sitting on the lot at Sugar Land Mercedes since the end of October. No Comand, and I don't thing it had air scarf or Xenon either but towards beginning of Dec they were really trying to move it. They sent me an email last week, so evidently it's still sitting.
Also something to keep in mind, 2008 results are starting to pour in from the Oilfield, and Houston is gonna get hit hard from the looks of things. I suspect the deals are gonna get better....

I know...
But Randy deserved (and got, I hope) more than I wanted to pay. Prices are below $35000 now. There's one here in Marietta (see another post in the thread) that the dealer offered to me for $36500. since I can travel for free, I thought it might be worth a flight to get one of the others, but I don't want to go just to be disappointed...

Thanks a million. Let me know when you're close and I'll send you contact info for the dealer. I saw the one at Sugarland on-line, and there's a white one nearby I want to see...

is it at the MB of FT Meyers on 41?
I actually managed to get down and see the Ft Myers car myself, but I sincerely appreciate the offer. The car was at an independent dealer, not the MB dealer. It had a couple small things wrong, and no air scarf, so it's off the list...

Don't I wish...I got 37500 for mine but on the bright side I did get 16K off the new Denali. I went and drove a ML350 and even Merc dealer wouldn't offer me any more than 37 for it even though he had a 2005 on the lot for 39...go figure.
I can't believe the prices! I bought my 05 SLK55 last April for $44,500, 15,000 miles, no airscarf, certified pre-owned with an additional year of warranty, but still, I wish I had waited.
I got 15k for may trade-in and financed the rest at a great rate of 4.9% through MB Financial so I guess I'm not totally in the hole, but these price just kill me! I plan on keeping mine for a long time, so I'm not unhappy - but, boy, what a difference a (recession) year makes!
FT. Meyers, Ft. Lauderdale & Houston sure look inviting considering the temperature in the Chicago area is suppose to be -12 F tonight. Definitely not SLK weather.

Randy, I'm sorry I wasn't really ready to buy when you were selling. But I'm just now getting traction for a purchase. The value of my older 320 has dropped several thousand in the past few months, but the 55s have dropped even more, so I'll still come out ahead. I'll owe you a pint someday for not getting yours...
On another subject, I've asked about you the last couple of times I've flown over Chattanooga, but you weren't on duty. I don't use that corridor much, but I'll keep asking.

I was in Jacksonville today, and it was 30F. They were thinking about closing the schools...

I'm off on Sundays & Mondays work Tues and Wed evenings and Thurs & Fri days and early Sat morning. Airspace over CHA and TYS so pretty much anything north of ATL. I assume you fly for D.... you do International or Dom?

Correct assumption. 757 and 767 domestic. Mostly left coast, NY, FL, MEX, Latin America, and the Carribbean. I usually fly Wed-Sat, plus or minus. I'll keep asking...
