| I currently own BASE RSX and I will be trading to SLK very soon. but I can't decide which slk to buy. i know 350 has better breaks and power but i can't have it with all the options i want. slk 280 fits my price range but power seem low rated. so i need some opinion. how does 280 pick up mod and is it hard to modify ecu for slk? And what is max rev line for 280 and 350?? I’m so used to ride in high rev car and I’d love to have high rev engine. and how much difference between 280 and 350? And last Question is 2006 slk auto has button shifter and 2007 slk auto has paddle shifter. is it possible to mod paddle shifter for 2006 slk??? here are my wish option list 7G-Auto AMG sports package Premium II Lighting Package Heating Package Hands-Free Communication System MHI Bluetooth Interface Module "SLK" Illuminated Door Sills Is it possible to negotiate some of my option list and how much discount should I ask for??? Thank you for your help. Last edited by HwoALanG; 10-06-2006 at 12:08 PM. |

| think you can only get the 2006 button shifts with teh amg package. As I dont have them (I wish). and I dont believe its easy to put them on either. think you have to get a whole new wheel, and a bunch of wiring. the 350 has 268bhp, and i believe off the top of my head 278lbs of torque. the 280 i think is aroudn 228 and 230 or sumthing like that. In the brochure the 350 says 0-60mph in less then six seconds( like 5.4 or 5.2). I can vouch that is true! Cant speak for the 280 didnt do much research on it cuz i had my sites set on a 350. From what I have been reading on just this forum, ECU upgrade will run like a couple hundred bucks. Heard some rumors that you have to send some out, like overnight it, and then get it back the next day. I dunno if I trust that. Not sure tho. Heating package is a must! haha, at least leather seats, I dont have airscarf(wish i did), but I just turn my heat and heat seaters on if its could out, and that works fine. Lightning package you can always add HID's to the headlights I believe. Im in the process of trying to do it. Hands free is preference. Where can you get illuminated door sills i would love that! Hope it helped. hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in. Believe I redline at like 6500 7 thousand rpms. |

| The 280 redlines at 6400 rpm. Get the 350 if you like to high rev the engine.

| From an RSX to an SLK, that's a big jump, congrats. Yes you can, very low mileage, all options, slightly used ones goes for $45K, since it's an auto you want, even better, they are all over the place, if you don't mind picking it up in another state, check autotrader and cars.com. SLK350 hands down, sorry 280 owners, don't mean to offend anyone. The SLK350 brakes are equivalent to what brembo sells as BBK (big brake kits) for most cars. The power can't be upgraded to a 350 w/o spending ALOT more and there isn't that much mods for the SLK280 yet. Max rev for both cars is 6400 I believe. High revving cars is no fun IMHO unless you are on a track. The S2000 and many honda's I've driven sucks on normal driving conditions, constantly having to down shift to pass and overtake. With the SLK350, you have plenty of power/torque in every gear. With the honda's, ppl think you are always trying to race them b/c it doens't go until VTEC kicks in at a high RPM and it screams, very annoying after awhile. I've never driven a 280 but from what I've read, the 280's exhaust is quieter, northbenz said he had a hard time going up the mountains and the 350 went up in a breeze. IIRC 350 is $5K more than a 280 but to get the same brakes and wheels as the 350 will cost you more than $5K and we haven't touch hp yet. If you can squeeze it in your budget, do it right and get the 350, sounds like you care about performance so, it's probably the right choice for you. Yes, it's possible to negotiate price this time of year, it's the best time to buy an '06 model, since they are trying to make space for the '07 ones and winter is around the corner, noone is really looking at convertibles. My dealer goes as low as $5K off MSRP but don't expect to find one with an AMG sports pkg, you have to order those. Harder to negotiate ordered purchases, that's why it's probably better to get slightly used with all the options. Baron7700: ECU for couple of hundred???? Where????? The cheapest I've seen is $1500 from powerchips and they don't even have it yet. ECU upgrade for an NA car will give it 10hp at most. When I first got this car, I thought I was going to get mod crazy but after some research and finding out that I will spend more then $10,000+ for a measly 40hp makes me what to love an auto even more.

| I came from an Infiniti G35 coupe auto to my SLK 280 7G and love it. The performance is the same with the SLK being more fun to drive. Coming from an RSX should be even more of a kick. Test drive a SLK 280 before you decide, could save you $$$. I haven't seen anybody who bought a SLK 280 wishing that they had gotten a 350 instead. There are plenty of SLK 350 owners who wish they had gotten the SLK 55 though, go figure. Also I've driven my SLK 280 in the moutains and it had no problems whatsoever.

| The difference between the 280 and 350 is about $4050 (around 9.1%). My priority was mainly to use the R171 as a daily commute car and also have reasonable fuel economy. Performance was second. At any rate, it is a FUN car. Hardtop convertible is equal to 2 cars in one. Add a remote varioroof module and it becomes almost indescribable.

| also the SLK door sills are quite expensive for what they are... and if you are on a budget, there are other options that could "better" your car more... |

| Even the SLK 350 gets decent gas mileage. I average around 24-25 mpg US in a mix of 10 minute and 30 minute driving for the most part. On our last trip, I noticed the car was getting 33.4 mpg on the interstate at 65 mph and cruise control. I would expect at least 30mpg on the highway. |

| Can get you paddle shifters but it will cost you because you will need custom work done to the electrics. Your call
