Service C

This has probably been asked many times (but I can't find it) we have just purchased a 2005 SLK350 and it now needs a service C. My questions are:
1. What is included in this service.
2. Somewhere I read it was covered, if you are still under warranty
3. How much should this cost.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

First, welcome! 2nd, did they give you a service manual? if not, here they are and they list the services. 'c' is like an 'a' service which is an oil change and check fluids. you might get the wipers included in the price or they might be extra. also the cabin filters get changed i believe which is extra also, about $80. price varies but is around $250 if i remember with my 05 slk350.

http://www.billsden.org/mercedes/slk/docs/#dtb

all service in not covered anymore.that went out with model r170 in 04. the r171 late 04-present, you get to pay for all scheduled maintenance.

Actually the price was $315, and the cabin filter is extra @ $197, I think I will DIY.

I'm ignoring the service reminders. I'll have my car serviced when I decide it needs to be done.

I just went for a service C today (which is the same as service A, they started rotating between just A and B now) and told them to skip the oil change which saved me about a $90.00. I had my last oil change about 1K miles ago but it was one year ago. The oil still look so clean but hopefully it is still ok because it will be 2 years when I will be doing the next oil change.

From my dealer, service A costs $289.95 and service B costs $589.95! The only extra work for service B is the MB Star Diagnostic check.

I thought there is a way to reset the service indicator yourself?

Two cabin filters? You mean one that folds in a V? The one in the passenger foot well is everything right?

everything i find just talks about the one in the passenger footwell that folds into a v. it has several names to include cabin and 'combination filter' which to me means, two, or maybe it serves 2 functions.but maybe dan can answer if there is another one.

I had the C service done last week. It was 193.50 - 25.00 (coupon). Next service shows on display as D.

Two days before my appointment the steering will would not go up or down. It stayed in the up position. Gear mechanism connecting piece was replaced. It was repaired under warranty - no charge.

Just got an estimate for Service C and it is $149.

List of services was:
Oil
Oil filter
Top off all fluids
Lubricate everything
AC filter (guess that is the cabin filter?)
Reset system

Sounds like a deal and it is walking distance from work.

I got the estimate for Service C from the only dealer in my country that does MBs and it's $675. I think that's too much.

That's way too much, just get your oil and filter change, change the cabin filter yourself, it's easy, top off any fluids that's low, and reset the computer yourself, that's what I did, all for ~$75 USD

06' SLK 350, Iridium/Ash all pkgs. 6-spd, 19" DCR. (Gone but not forgotten)

I already reset the computer. I still have to do the rest. I don't think it would be a good idea to just forget about it.

To be fair I just called again and got an estimate at $390. I think the first time I called the guy tried shoving in all "extras" in there. They use Mobil 1 10 - 40w. Besides Oil, oil filter and Cabin filter, is there anything extremely hard to do here that would merit taking it to the dealer?

It's usually Mobil1 0W40 or Mobil1 ESP Formula M 5W40.

Service C is mainly oil and oil filter change, cabin filter change (this I think should be optional or DIY, just buy the cabin filter < $40) and a more extensive inspection, probably some diagnostics, run on the DAS. Most of the cost is labor.

I am almost conviced of doing it myself but Im concerned about the fluids. I don't want the car breaking down and having to pay for it.

I used to do my own oil and oil filter change a long time ago, like 1982 Dodge Colt. With MB, I usually let the dealer or a trusted independent MB service do the oil and filter change. Moreover, if something happens (unlikely) there's a place to turn to.

I have never changed the oil on a car, and I don't to make the rookie mistakes on this one. It's just not smart.

Probably best to let MB/trusted indy do it then. Negotiate with the service advisor, if that's feasible.
