Fuel consumption SLK 200

Hi,

I just bought an SLK 200 from 2006. I love it. The only problem is that I'm very surprised with the fuel consumption. It's really high.

Tires: 225/245
In highways, no more than 140kmh is going up to 8.5 l/100km
Urban is around 10.5 l/100km
The combined is around 9.5

That is quite higher from what I read.

Do you have an explanation for this?

Could you please guys tell me what is your consumption?

Thank you.

Raiky.

Looks pretty good - I get a bit higher on the highway, and a bit lower urban on my C200K.

I find that driving style really makes a difference on these cars, so sounds like you drive like I do :-)

Average 11-12 L/100km on a 350. Urban can top 16.

My 2005 200K auto pulls in typically about 8 lt / 100km (34 mpg Imperial). But there again with all the darn speed cameras in the UK its hard to push it too often.

My experience is that a local taxi is much speedier than any SLK in Istanbul, come to think of it probably faster than anything else!

Hello everybody!
That's my first post, I own an SLK200 R-171 and since new (8800km now) the computer shows 8.7 liters / 100km (about 11.5 km/l)
I've to say I am not using the car downtown, I live just about 20km from a major city and most of the times I use the car to go to the airport or to reach some cliffs where I go climbing, therefore the traffic doesn't bother me 80% of the times.
Actually I thought I would have had a better fuel consumption, since the SLK200 is not a real sport car, with a 1.8l engine and just 163hp. I got rid of a Boxster S, whose fuel consumption was around 7km per liter, but that was understandable on a 3.2l engine with 100hp MORE than the SLK200...
I heard the SLK200 restyling is less thirsty than my pre-restyling R-171, anybody here have had the chance to compare the two cars?

For city driving i get between 4.5-5 miles/litre. On highways it gets to 6 easily if the journeys are long. On a trip from Yorkshire to London and back i got 6.5 per litre but the journey was over 500 miles and steady driving with no passenger and nearly no luggage.

Raiky, I wouldn't worry, sounds about right.

I rarely get a mixed consumption under 10 l/100km. If I really try to drive calmly I get it to about 9, but that don't impress the ladies...

Of course, on the Autobahn, I don't dare to even look

At first the consumptioned bothered me as well, but then I thought about it. After all it's about sound and feeling and g-force, not about economic driving and hugging trees. To quote SLK Rabbit: "Prius, hmm I think I'll drive the SLK " Now, I just give the car all the juice it want's, in large chunks...

your fuel consumtion looks good.

I do have to say I use fuel whit octane 98 (from total fina). And I average a 8l/100km around town and I just did a drive of 120km which was High way and city mix whit drive up and down hill, right and twisting road. so a lil bit of everything and evenly balancet. And I got a average of 6.9l/100km. but moste of the time my consumtion is around 8 because I like to flor it at the red light. Don't forget every time you start the consumption go's up. If you fil here up and would start driving whitout stopping till you fuel tank is empty you schoulde easy drive more than 1100km.

I got a facelift model.

We've averaged about 30mpg since we have had the car, just coming up for 20k miles.

hi , yours is bit high , I have the same but I am in automatic gear box and also i have the sport package with the heavier brakes , discs, etc.

so I believe is high, you can change the spark plugs with denso maker (cooler type) and also to install a kn filter or green filter.

after you do this make also a change to the engine oil and filter.

then leave your car to learn the new settings for two weeks or more and then come back to us to advise about the results

above I made for my self and now i am in the zone of 6.4 ltrs per 100 km to 8.5-9 ltrs per 100km mixed conditions

Average combined driving I would say about 34-36 mpg. If I can manage a steady 50 mph for more than 60 miles I've seen 40.2 mpg. But it's very hard to stick to 50 mph

I know it is an old thread but I think this is the place for my post.
Nowadays I realized an interesting thing and I am curious is anybody experienced same?

My car is a non facelift R171 200K with automatic gear (5G) with me the car's weight is ~1,5 tons and I use it rarely, about 8k km's in a year - mainly in the capitol with heavy traffic, some weekends with country roads, 1-3 bigger journey on highways.

I mainly used my car's gear in comfort mode and rarely I push the pedal to the metal but I am a typical calm person usually. As I can see doesn't matter my top is up or down the consumption doesn't change.
My fuel ('95 normal) consumption average is: 9,6 L / 100km on the last 15k km's since I own this car.
Urban: 9-10 L/100km
Country: 7-8 L/100km
Highway: 8-9 L/100km.
These datas belongs to my winter tyre size: 205/55 R16 Pirelli SottoZero SII 91H. My best consumption was 6,8 L/100km during a long country trip with 2 person and baggages.

When I bought my double sized AMG alloys for summertime (with Kumho Ecsta KU39 LeSport 94Y, front: 225/45 R17, rear: 245/40 R17), my consumptions are:
Urban: 10-12 L/100km
Country: 8-9 L/100km
Highway: 8-9 L/100km, so wider tyres obviously generates higher consumption.

In the last month I started to use my car's gear only in sport mode with my same habbits and wider summer tires and I realized that my fuel consumption is getting decrease... in general 1 L/100km less than earlier.

Anybody else got same experience guys?

On my SLK 200, it seems that 78kms is the most efficient speed.

The cruise control switch is the key to improved economy, so when I want to eke out more km per litre, I just set it to 78 and just forget about speeding.

If memory serves me correctly, I've gotten about 660/670km out of one tank before doing this, but this includes some city driving at start and end of the journey.

Never ever get better than 10l to 10.5l/100km around town though.

Not really relevant given the age of the thread Jeff but since my last main reset on my SLK 55 I have travelled 11200km at an average of 13.2 litres/100km.

Love it!!

Didn't buy it for economy.

I leave that to the "e" crowd.
