Default Removable SLK Trunk Rack

I saw this removable SLK trunk rack on eBay. Someone might be interested. Not me.

Thanks for the tip. Seems odd, however, that none of the photos
appear to be an SLK. I'd be cautious, although the seller has a good
feedback rating.

The shape does not seem to fit the SLK boot, does it?

I am no expert but this looks like a rather flimsy rack... Also, why do they advertise this thing as a Mercedes SLK Stainless Removable Deck Lid Trunk Rack while the cars on the pictures are a Mazda and a Boxter?

This thread brings up a question. Given the understandably
limited storage space in the SLK (still more than one would
imagine for a roadster with a retractable hard top), how many
would be interested in having a reliable, stylish luggage rack?

I totally agree. Besides, the SLK isn't meant to be a "carrying" car. Nevertheless, the boot is surprisingly large. Last week, I drove a friend to IKEA in my SLK. He bought a lot of things (including a long shelf). I was sure his stuff couldn't fit into the boot but it did and there was even room for more.

I agree, the SLK is for carrying up to, two people. I can envision that someone would have a need for the trunk rack. It's not a permanent fixture. Personally, I'd never consider it. I have other vehicles available when I need more space.

I think that rack fits ON TOP of the trunk. That would probably not be a good thing. it is added weight. When the roof goes in or out, the trunk lid would have to support the extra weight while pivoting on its hinge. Could damage the works.

I don't know about the R171, but the R170 had a roof rack designed in. There were mounting points on the pillars IF you ordered the car with that option. When the roof rack was on, I believe you could not put the top up and down. But you had to order the SLK with that option for the mounting points to be included in the car. You couldn't do it as an add-on.

I know the R-171 has an optional top-rack (for skis, I assume). I know MB engineers know what they are doing but I should be reluctant to put any weight on the Vario roof since it has a delicate and precise mechanism.
