| I'm turning 17 soon and i'm debating which of these to buy. Everyone I talk to says the slk is a girls car. The BMW is pretty sweet but I like the aggressive front of the SLK. The slk has an OK interior. i love the bmws interior. idk. help me. thx. alex |

| When you decide if you want a sporty car you can mod, or a drop top car that will drop peoples jaws. You have your answer. the 280 will never be able to (the 350 even) keep up with a 335 with just a chip. But they those and the 328's are everywhere. SLK's are rarer and stand out more, hell they look awesome! But the 280 is more of a cruiser car. Also decide if you want to seat 4 instead of 2. Performance and practicality = bimmer Style and Prestige/ Something Different = SLK. |

with the 335 you'll have a rear seat but you'll never get a chance to use it (all the girls will think you are a prick). Better performing car all around compared to the 280. With the SLK, you'll actually want a back seat, but remember, there's always the trunk. Just have her put her hands over the top of the trunk and.... | |

| hey, question, do you think the trunk of the SLK can hold a few large bulky bags with football pads in them? the pads are pretty tall. |

| The SLK's trunk has about 10 cu.ft. with the top up, and the BMW's trunk has about 13 cu. ft. As you can see on the sidebar of this post, the SLK is just one of my vehicles -- though it is my favorite. Notwithstanding that, I always advise people who are going to have just one vehicle NOT to make it a small two seat roadster (like the SLK). Although the SLK has one of the biggest (and most usable) trunks in its class, there isn't enough storage and room in the car for it to be one's only car.

| Yeah in all seriousness if your talking about your one and only car the SLK is not a great choice, or at least not a good choice for what you want to use it for. If it where me i would forget the 280 and the 335 and buy myself an E46 330 Coupe with the M Sport pack, the E46 is quite possibly one of the most beautiful man made forms ever to grace god's green earth.

| yeah most of us that have an SLK usually have another for practical purposes... I can't even fit my drivers and woods in the trunk. |

| Same vote here - if the SLK is your "only" car, you'll probably regret it. I'm like Dan, though - if I were looking for another sporty car, an E46 is hard to beat, and cheap to mod. (and has a back seat...) |

| Look man, you're young. And I assume if you can afford such a car at this age, you're either a very wealthy young man or dad's buying it for you. Don't get me wrong I'm not judging. However, if you're that young, I'd go for the convertible SLK. You can always buy a bigger car once you get married and have kids. BUT... that 335i engine is so much nicer than the 280. Why not go for the new 350? |

| Probably the wrong forum to ask for opinions on various BMW models. Personally I like BMWs, MBs, Porsches, etc. but im definitley an SLK fan above all these. I would personally go with the SLK for my life style but it depends what you want to use it for - if you want to drive around friends (your in highschool?) then a 2 seater might not work for you. I enjoyed having a convertible in the Vancouver area when I lived there, but its not a "must" in my opinion as the weather isn't great (whereas in So. Cal. I can use the convertible almost everyday). 280 obviously doesn't have a huge engine so if you want the bigger numbers go for the BMW. Ultimatley, you'll love the SLK if you choose to get it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the BMW was more practical for you. |

| In theory, yes. In practice, I'm not so sure. Over at e90post the crowds are currently in quite an upheaval about the recent software updates from BMW (supposedly aimed at reducing mechanical stress on the wastegate to reduce the failure rates). What used to be a car with no noticeable turbo-lag, has turned into just the opposite. And then there's the infamous high-pressure fuelpump issue. I have never seen so many folks report their car going into limp mode than the 335i owners on e90post. If I were to get a 3-series (I was on the fence) I'd settle for a 328. Another car I would suggest for a test drive is the VW GTI and its sibling, the Audi A3 2.0T. But really, just get the SLK, man! You won't regret it. There'll be plenty of opportunity for you later in life to kart around your kids on the rear seats. |

| Go to the dealer and take a test drive. Maybe bring the pads along and see if they fit. If I could get the SLK when I was 17, I would definitely do it. You only really need seats for you and your girlfriend. If you need to cart something that won't fit, ask a friend. Personally, I would definitely go for the 350 based on my SLK 320 experience, but admittedly, I have not driven the 280. |
