Hmm, this really isn't the other MB sites - you'll find a wealth of info and assistance with your new car here, and lots of great people - being rude is prolly not the best way to start.

Please do not insult individuals the same age as you by acting the way you are. It gives us young people a bad name. Thanks!

Yet another ditto, i think you'll find Alex that a lot of us are younger than you seem to think and we all manage to get along like a house on fire so your more than welcome to spend time on here but please try and put a lid on the insults.

Had it been out at the time when I bought my 280, I might be sitting in a 328 convertible now. It is a much bigger car, and while far from ugly, the transition between rear window and trunk looks a bit odd. The 335i engine got rave reviews but appears to be on the verge of being unreliable. I have no regrets getting the SLK280.

This will not be the case in Canada. New 335i cabriolet start around $63K, without any options. After some options, you are looking at close to $70k+ taxes.

A used 07 SLK55 will be around $70K, plus taxes and there are not many used around, especially CPO. That said, SLK55 has all options as standard equipment, except 030 package.

Back to the topic, a 350 with AMG package will probably be the best value, consider it comes with a newer engine and about the same price as the pre-face lifted model.

I test drove a 350 and a 280 in Victoria, Canada around march-april this year.

The 350 was a 2007 with no options and low mileage, was listed around $63,000. The 280 was 2006 with medium mileage and a few basic options - it was listed at $50,000.

So a new 350 in Canada probably goes for more then a new 55AMG in the US - pretty ridiculous. I decided to wait till I moved before buying and was quite satisfied with the price.

Edit. Just checked the MB Canada website - they list 2009 SLK55 AMG coupe/roadster starting at $84,800. Checked the US MB website - SLK 55 AMG msrp starting @ $65,000. Hopefully the Canadian prices eventually go down and match the US prices - but for now I won't buy another car in Canada even if I move back - ill drive down and buy something in the US.

Well you're young so you don't really need back seats. You can always borrow your a bigger car from your parents if you have to. The SLK is an excuse not to be "that guy" that always drives everyone around .

Compared to many other countries, imported cars sure are a bargain in the USA and gasoline too.

um no why do you have to assume that automatically? Asians drive ricers here in BC. It's a well known fact. some drive MBs but they suck at driving so i wouldn't qualify it as "driving".

OK lets just move on, looks like a simple misunderstanding with no harm meant.

This is an international forum remember so what's accepted in one locale can offend in another.

And everyone drives ricers around here. Why do you have to specify Asian kids? sounds racist to me.

Why didn't you just leave it at 'stupid kids' if you wanted to insult anyone?

BTW, in my area, all the Asian kids drive MB, BMW, Audi, Porsche, whether riced out, stupid, neither, or both.

Political correctness... a pain in the ass.

Didn't someone say sometime. I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally.

I don't think he meant any harm by it. let's move on.

I for one, second a 350 over a 280. The 09 has more power and the throttle blip and newer command and tech. If you can afford the 335 then I think you can afford the 350 (correct me if I'm wrong I've not checked prices on these two recently).

If one doesn't care for the manual transmission, yes. Otherwise and if living in the US, no way.

I think in Canada, both 280 and 350 comes with the manual transmission as standard equipment. The 7G auto is optional item.

Sounds like a flame war is lighting up in here..........Alex, stick to the topic of buying your SLK and do not make stereotypical remarks about Asians and whatnot.........being an asian myself my other asian counterparts would not like to hear such blubbery especially from a 17 year old asking for advice on a car that his parents will buy for him.
