Default Please help on model differences for new buyer

Hello to All: I'm transitioning from a BMW Z4 3.0si to an SLK350. Please help me with which models are my best value with a range from 2006 to 2008 model year. I've already decided on the SLK 350 based on performance but need help with differences from year to year. Also what are "must have" options.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, interesting question. I guess it depends which country you are in as some options will be available.

I would say Airscarf is an essential, which means leather and heated seats required too (and I would say also should be specced). Most people would say Comand, as retro fitting is a PITA.

I have parktronic, and wouldn't go without now.

I am sure many others will pitch in with suggestions...

There are very few differences between SLK350s, except the refresh for 2009.

Here are some things that come to mind.
  • 2006 deleted the easy exit feature, side mirror tilt in reverse. Added Sirius as part of PII and PIII package.
  • 2007 added paddle shifters on the sport package instead of buttons, the CD changer plays MP3s
  • 2008 I believe the automatic transmission became standard on the 350.

My must haves in the US:
  • AMG Sport Package
  • Heating Package (Airscarf, Heated seats)
  • PIII package (Harmon Kardon, COMAND w/nav, power steering wheel, power seats, seat memory, homelink, rain sensing wipers, ambient interior lighting, auto-dimming mirrors)
  • lighting package (HID headlights, headlamp washers)
  • Phone prep / Bluetooth
  • Automatic climate control
  • iPod connector

If I were to buy a used SLK, I would go for a SLK55 AMG instead of a 350. The used prices on 55s are not that much more than similar 350s so in my mind that is the best "value".

Great stuff thanks for the insight! I'll look into the SLK55. I have not seen any locally but will expand my search. Couldn't help but notice ICAO airport IDs. Are you in the aviation business?

No, are you? I post a lot on a travel forum called Flyertalk.com and it's common to describe your location with airport codes. I guess that stuck with me.

I have been flying Continental, EWR to CLE on Mondays and CLE to EWR on Thursdays, for almost 4 years now, to get to a client office. Sometime also ATL. Before that it was Sunday - Thursday EWR-IAH for several years, which really sucked (4 hour flight each way).
