Default oil

Hi.
1-Does AMG use the same Mobil 1 oil as the dealer has, or is a special oil for the break in period ?

2-is there a difference of extracting the oil or drain it from the plug ?

3-does it help jacking up the car from the front to help extracting all the oil using a pump ?

This thing is a beast ....Cant wait to post some pics soon.....

Should be the same Mobil 1 the dealer has, 0W-40.

There's no difference between extracting or draining the oil but draining is preferred because of the stepped oil pan so your unlikely to get all the oil out trying to extract it.

No i wouldn't jack it up the oil will move toward the back of the pan and fall into the dip.

is it a DIY .
If i am able to get underneath the car is the plug easy to get to Or you have to take few things apart .

In addition,
1- is it true you should replace the plug ech time as well.?
2- what size wrench is needed and at what tourque to you tighten it?
3- is there a special oils filter tool to remove and tighten with.
Thanks.

In the US, Mobil1 0W40 and Mobil1 Formula M ESP 5W40 are approved for AMG engines.

You need to remove the undertray to get to the drains but thats just a new nuts to release.

1) No but it is good practice to do so (any washers must be replaced)

2) I forget the size i'm sorry but the torque is 10Nm (not much at all)

3) Yes and the dealer should sell you one.

0W40 operates better at lower tempratures

What's amusing, 5W40 was developed for diesel engines. The Mobil web site says it's for diesel engines only.

I had my car serviced this week and they put 5W40 in it. I balked so they gave me a copy of a MBUSA news letter (not even a lowly DTB) saying it's approved for all gasoline engines except the SLR.

I'll be asking the AMG folks on the AMGPL during the chat session next week about 5W40.

Tom mate i completely agree with you 115%, 0W40 was the original specified and the only one to meet all the right MB sheets.

Like i said when the oil issue was raised a while back this 5W40 is used in many diesel MB's so it probably makes financial sense to use it for as much as possible instead of having to keep multiple drums.

Did you pay for your service? i would have demanded 0W40.

I posted this before, but why not again. At MBUSA Startekinfo, on the left navigation bar, select MB Workshop Recourses, then Recommended Fluids and select the PDF file dated June 5, 2008.

It states that 0W40 is the only Mobil oil for the AMG... but you have other choices.

Rob Allen from MBUSA AMG is going to check if Mobile 1 5W40 is acceptable oil for gasoline engines. He initially stated that Mobile 1 0W40 was it.

This was posted in SLKWorld before and I got an email reply from Mercedes-AMG (germany) stating that as long as the oil meets MB spec for 229.5, then it is fine for AMG engines. I forgot who the original poster was on that thread. I'll do a search and post the link.

A recent trip to MB parts at Laguna Niguel following the AMG Performance Tour had them show cases of Mobil1 0W40 and Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W40 on display, and the technician states both are fine for the AMG engine.

Moreover, someone knowledgeable on oil etc (works for the industry)in another forum stated that he would prefer the synthetics formulated for diesel engine (if it is approved by the engine manufacturer).

Another useful link: http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

Scroll down towards the bottom of page to see the oils that meet MB spec 229.5 and 229.51 (both diesel and gasoline).

I got a response from AMG Info (Germany) at the AMGPL.

There sayin as of June of this year

Mobil 1 5W-40 for M156 engines (6.3 liter)
Mobil 1 0W-40 for all other AMG's including the C30 diesel
Mobil 1 5W-50 for SLR's

Now you know why everyone's confused.
