I stand corrected. US 09s with command per the brochure/manual state that when car is in 'park', will play dvd videos. I tested it and you can play dvd movies while parked. Cool! Thanks Mazeka for noticing that. But it cannot be enabled while driving. European models I understand can be unlocked. do a search.

Nice! In the previous incarnations of COMAND - R171 pre-face lift - the hardware did not have the capability to decode MPEG2 video. If the '09 hardware does, then I'd be willing to bet that the CAN-BUS "fixer" for the European models will work for the US models.....

The issue with blocking the CAN speed signal with modules is the COMAND is unable to determine road speed so the automatic volume control and the navi dead reckon wont work anymore and it will log a fault code that an inquisitive dealer might try and fix, i wouldn't fancy the state of the warranty when they find the module.

I know i must sound anti-mod in a lot of my posts but video in motion really annoys me, in cars with rear screens I'm totally for it since it keeps the passengers happy but in the SLK its just asking for trouble.

Make sure the roof is down so you don't bump your head against it when the evening gets more interesting.

It could seriously cause problems if you get into an accident. Imagine having video in motion. The movie is playing for the entertainment of the passenger. You're totally focused on the road but somehow get into an accident. Officer identifies you had video playing placing you at fault. Ouch.

I'd be more worried about keeping all body parts in the cabin while the roof is in motion to be honest.

It works with the speed signal, when the shifter is in the right position the signal is active and it shuts off.

Like i said the only way to get around it is to block information on the CANBUS but that will stop a lot of other functions on the COMAND plus its dangerous and most probably illegal if you where to check the legislation in your area.
