Wink High Praise Indeed

So, my wife and I are driving back from a movie yesterday afternoon in my 09 SLK 350, top down of course. As we made a right turn onto a hill I could see a 08 BMW 335 really gunning it up the hill about 100 feet ahead of me. So of course I goosed my car and caught up with him fairly easily.
For a couple of lights he would floor it at each light and I kept up with him. Finally at a light I was able to pull up along side of him. His car was black and pristeen. He then turns off his stereo (which he had cranked up), turns his head to me and says "that's a beautiful car you have there!"
That really made my day. When the light turned green he roared off and I just took it easy for the rest of the way home.

Know the feeling David. I was in a Ruby Tuesdays this past Saturday, sitting in their glass enclosed patio. Car parked 25 feet away so I can keep my eye on it. Some people parked in the spot next to it (I always park on the end) and started to walk all around my car. I could not resist. Out comes the remote and thanks to smarttop, the top comes down. They start looking around for the owner and by magic, the top goes back up! You should have seen the looks on their faces and the people at the tables inside who saw what I was doing! Priceless! They came in and sat in the patio also and we let them in on who was pulling their chains!

Shortly after I got my SLK in late 2004, A truly beautiful woman was crossing the street in front of my car. She stopped, looked at the car and said "that sure is a beautiful car". When I got home, my wife asked me why I was smiling. I told her and she said " I'm glad I told you to buy the car." Memories !!!!

Would be too afraid I'd have grubby hands or worse some little prat's spit in the interior.

Or knowing me i would work the roof and they would get a finger trapped

these were adults (but sometimes adults are the biggest babies, no?) and i would relish the thrill of 'thrashing' (always wanted to say that) anyone that would try. besides, i was only 25 feet away. But suggestion noted and logged. Thanks!

slightly , but so many slk drivers around here park their cars top down in front of restaurants, bars, beaches, etc (and leave them so while they' re gone). to me this is unimaginable (at least for as long as the car is still new)...

I had that happen when driving another car 10 years ago when a bird pooped and it hit the passenger seat through the open sunroof! I swear the bird was high-fiveing it with his bird buddies afterwards.

Regardless where I park, the top is ALWAYS up, and the doors ALWAYS locked. Regardless where parked, even in my locked garage at home. Not worth the risk otherwise.

Around here I've seen several cars parked with their tops down and add-on GPS devices suction cupped to their windsheilds just waiting to be stolen.
Like -1- mine is always parked top closed and doors locked.
