| I went to move some postings around and these got messed up so if we start this over and keep it all in the one place, sorry to the guys who did post in the others but it would have taken forever to put it all back together again. Since nothings showing on our system and Tom seems to think the posted recall scope info was inaccurate lets wait until we have something factual to post up.

| Yep SCN coding is used by dealers to code the more complex control units, it is custom generated by MB at the request of a software app we have and then then DAS downloads it into the car for processing. It contains information such as DOB, Model Type, Country, Options, VIN, Software Version, a unique ID and so much more. Basically we use it to make updates, replacements or retrofits simple because instead of having to mess about with hundreds of lines of code (especially when retrofitting) we can make a simple change in a GUI say to add an option and a code is automatically created, it prevents us from having to directly modify the code since thats not such a great idea in a production environment where one typing mistake can cause serious harm to the electronics. Since the most complex control units are normally the ones that have a hand in emissions related stuff they also drop in a unique ID that allows MB to comply with US legislation on emissions related control unit software integrity. Just think of it as using a 2 page GUI to setup your new computer instead of getting down into the code to do the job.
