| oh no, im not a fan of these atall. the chrome strips of aluminum on the bonnet like the 55amg is ok, but not te ones on the grill beside the badge, not my cup of tea. think they take away from the classy look of the grill. sorry if i offend anyone but its just my opinion. |

| Yea, all that add on chrome is just too much. I'll just settle for a set of 20" chrome wheels.

| I know that this will age me, but putting the chrome strips on the grille fins would make the front end look like an old Studebaker(1950-'51). The irony in all of this is that, in the early 1960s, Studebaker-Packard was the U.S. distributor for Mercedes-Benz. Dinoman |

| Don't do it. What you have on the hood/bonnet is fine. The ones you're talking about look like stick-ons.

| Is it just me or does that make it look like the Benz symbol is a propeler and with the chrome or either side it looks kinda like an airplane. Not that that is a necessarily a bad thing... |

| The chrome blades are not my cup of tea but I shouldn't criticize anyone here who likes them. I have seen worse, unfortunately. And I agree with our friend Dinoman. I too think this accessory makes the SLK look like an old 1950 Studebaker (although I was born in 1954, I have seen many of them when I was a kid). |

| Wow. I'm surprised by all the negative comments. I have the chrome wings and I really like the look. To me, it kind of makes the wings look like separate pieces and makes it look a little more special. Maybe on a dark car, it might look a little too bling, but on my iridium car, I think it adds just a touch of sparkle without sticking out too much. Maybe not for everyone, but if you like the look like I do, go for it! See my thread "new front spoiler". Pics of my car with the wings are posted there. For some reason, this site won't let me re-post them here or I don't know how. Last edited by bmwnomore; 09-20-2006 at 08:09 PM. |

| These personal choice mods are really never bad. When asking, you WILL get opinions.

| I think it looks good. A little old time Mercedes Benz look. Check out the 1950's 300SL http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-mn...-1600x1200.jpg |

| Zut and Mtiede, You got my point exactly. The look the old Stude went for was the front end of a prop-driven fighter plane. While that might have still been "hot" at the start of the Korean War, I don't think that it's state-of-the-art at present. I certainly don't mean to slight anyone who has installed them. In fact, before I took delivery of my car, I agonized over whether or not to paint the wings black, as on the SLK 55 AMG. I decided against it, for a number of reasons (one being that the black looks great with Iridium, but not as good with Firemist-not enough contrast, yet makes the snout look too big, in my opinion). There are lots of ways to personalize our cars, and I salute all those who take steps to bring theirs closer to their personal views of automotive perfection. In the immortal words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?" (LOL). Dinoman |

| I debated about getting the chrome wings for my car (Tellurite Silver) but thought they wouldn't look as good as on a darker coloured car, so I ended up going with matt black ones. Which I really like. Just don't have any photos on me, cause in work!!!

| The chrome vs no-chrome debate is still very touchy. It is all a matter of personal taste. In the late 80's, the "in" thing was to have solid colours. The body, the bumpers, the door-handles and the wheels were all the same colour. No chrome. Now, a little chrome is back in style. The contrast of chrome on a dark colour can be chic on a bigger car such as the S class but in the case of the SLK, the dark colour/chrome combination makes the car look a little less sporty IMHO. I think that Tellurite/Diamond silver is probably the best colour to accomodate a little extra chrome due to the slightly bluish hue of the paint. |

After all, I live in Miami. You can't accuse people here of stoping at tastefull. I've not seen one where chrome lips on the air plane like front was the only thing added. They usually go hog wild. Last edited by RacerCub68; 09-21-2006 at 12:16 PM. | |
