Default Invisishield vs Clearshield vs nothing???

Hey guys, it's me again. I'm thinking about having the dealership install the Invisishield before I take delivery of the car so that I won't risk having a nick or something from a rock already on the front and then get it done later. My question is this:

For those of you that have gotten this, did you get Clearshield (which I think is a non-MB affiliated installer), or Invisishield (that's what the guy here tells me they have done at the dealership). Also, can you pass on any words of wisdom, pros/cons of this protective film?

For those of you who have NOT gotten this done, why not?

Thanks in advance!!

These things have gotten a LOT nicer in the last couple years, but you can still see they are not as glossy as the paint on the car, and they WILL fade slightly no matter what the sales people tell you. I would get them on medium coloured cars where the glossiness won't contrast as much.

I didn't get it because i would rather have the hood and bumper repainted every 3 years for the price it costs to get the clear bras installed.

P.S. If you track the car a LOT, you need to get this though.

I have this 3M clear bra pro-installed on my white SLK, my white 560i, and before that I had it on a blue Cayman, black Cayenne, I did not notice a big difference.
This things protect the bumper and front nose of your hood from stone chips
and to an extend from bigger objects that would cause damage to the car.
I'd rather notice the line of a clear bra than the several paint chips that you can get
from a freeway drive. BTW this material can be removed in no time with no damage to the pain.Just my humble opinion.

Regards.

I have clearshield installed on my 09 slk 55amg. i previously have ventureshield on my 05 slk 350. i wheeled and dealed for it with my dealer and the final bill was $1000 (free 4 me). it covers the hood, grill, bumper, mirrors and headlamps. would not live without it. mine are very glossy and wax over real nice. i got it a week after delivery and was nervous every day before it was put on.

any questions? ask away.

FWIW, I just pulled mine off. I was surprised how much it had yellowed. I should have kept it and taken a picture.

The other thing is over time wax build up at the seam. They do look great when new. Mine had been on a couple of years. As cyberdrakon says things have probably improved in the last couple of years.

Cheers!

Wished I had one! Just got stuck behind an 18wheeler that went into the left hand shoulder by the fast lane of the freeway.

By the time I slowed doen I got 2 rock chips in windsheild and chipped paint!

Dealer told me they could fix it but it would need repainting, new windsheild and big $$$!

I have a $1000 insurance deductable to keep my rates down so either way, I have to pay. ARRRGGGG!

I feel sick!

I bet that would have saved my paint.

I've actually had full black leather bras on my last 3 cars, but I wanted to keep the look of the SLK clean so I think I may go for this. I won't be tracking the car but it will be a daily driver. Thankfully we don't have a ton of 18 wheelers in south TX unlike up north because it's not as much of a cross roads here, but we do have plenty of trucks and SUVs still. I too believe I'd rather see a line from wax buildup on the hood rather than a bunch of small stone chips. Too bad they can't clearshield the entire hood ;p

Haha I will just have to ask them about doing a full-hood cover then I think the whole car might be a *tad* overkill.

Ouch! Mine isn't that bad. Just paint chipped and windshield chips. I will be spending this afternoon with touchup paint. Windsheild will have to wait.

I have the Clear Armor done on my car before delivery by the dealer, that is the one Jerry Rice advertising for. I have the full premium kit including lights and all, I'm pleased with it so far but only got it for a year.

I don't like to have a car whit a condom in the front

the dealer spent the $1000. I didn't. and 3m/ventureshield is available for less than $500. to each his own.

Some of you must be lucky enough to be able to paint your hood often, where I live, to paint a hood by a good body shop costs over 1000.00. I cannot afford to paint it every year, for that matter, not even every other year.

I know this is a travesty to many of you but I just ignore dings and small dents and drive my car as if they don't exist. To me, it's just a toy.

Not a travesty at all, to each his own I'm sure after a couple years or so I won't be as worried about the front end getting rock nicks and such, but I'll baby it for a while.
