Default Tire air pressure monitor

Could anyone please let me know if it can be turned-off.
I have a '09 300slk and replaced the original 17's for AMG 18's
apparentely the new ones do not have pressure sensors so
I keep getting the "flat tire" icon and the "no wheel sensor"
on the display mon.

Thanks for any help.

The TPMS transponder can be installed by the tire shop that did the tires.

Perhaps others know of a way to turn off the TPMS monitor in the car.

Owner's manual states: after going into the TPMS menu, press the "-" button to cancel activation.

Let us know if the above works to inactivate the TPMS.

I don't think you can stop the warning or at least a similar warning saying its now disabled but you can stop the actual monitoring.

Best thing you can do is have sensors installed like Eddy said.

TireRack sells the sensors for $248 for a set of 4.

Well, Tirerack experts do not think their sensors would be compatible.
Finally...I called a MB service rep he said in so many words:

No, the TPMS can't be disable or turned off.
New or different wheels will always need MB tire sensors, you can reuse your old ones as long as you write down their serial number so they can reprogram the system
for you (otherwise they would have to open the wheels again).
Each MB sensor is $200 and it will be another $250 to reprogam.
In other words they get you one way or the other. So for now I installed back
my 17's, the system went back to normal. And I have seatting in the garage a
very nice set of 18" AMG 16 spoke wheels.

Regards.

Check this site: http://www.dillaircontrols.com/files...s%20(TPMS).pdf

IIRC, Siemens is the supplier. Check with the tire people if they can install the MB compatible TPMS in the 18" tires that you now have and code it. Should be cheaper than MB doing it.

OK I'm confused here, patoleas why don't you remove the sensors from your old tires and install them on the new ones then your all sorted, nothing needs to be programmed at all.

Sid, You have a 2006 mate so why do you need pressure sensors?

I hope this is not true or at least that TireRack gets compatible sensors within 3 months as I plan on swapping my 09 OEM wheels/tires with the 17" AMG 171 wheels/tires I had on my 06 SLK for the winter. I don't want to remove the sensors from the current wheels as I plan on putting them back on next spring. But I'm sure as hell not dropping over $1K to do it!!

From the pdf it's the Siemens for Mercedes Benz sensor assembly, Dill Part no. 1054. Best to check with the tire store/MB service department.

I thought TPMS is mainly for cars manufactured after September 2007. This is different from the system tht senses the rotation of the tires and figures out if there's a tire pressure loss or not (earlier models)

Here's another site for the Beru/Siemens TPMS for mercedes Benz vehicles: http://rlauto.bfs002.bfhosting.co.uk...4/95/index.htm

Looks like sensor and valve stem assembly are sold separately.

Can the new TPMS be retrofitted to the earlier model R171?

OK but there is more to the system than just adding the sensors in the tires, the car needs kit installed to receive and process the information.

Yes it can be but it could require parts replacement right back up to the cluster itself

I wanted to keep the new 17's for winter/mountain driving tires.
I guess I just have to invest in another set of sensors.$!!**

My guess would be that a competent tire place will be able to get the MB compatible sensors and be able to code it (as the coding equipment is also sold as an aftermarket deal). I doubt this has to be exclusive to MB service department only.
