Smile 2009 SLK350 Questions

Hello, all:

First post on these boards - just discovered slkworld on one of the other MB sites and it looks like this place has a wealth of information!

I have two quick questions as my wife and I begin our search for the right SLK for her:

1.) We are planning on getting a new 2009 after seeing the facelifted model at a local dealership this past weekend. Does anyone know what kind of discount from MSRP can be expected this early in the production run? We are thinking Iridium / Ash / wood, cold weather, and lighting packs.

2.) If we do not opt for the Premium I package, is there a way to use an Ipod Nano with the stock stereo system?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Once we take delivery and get some experience behind the wheel, I hope we can become contributing members and actually answer some questions, too!

Welcome W_Hening!

There are 3 or 4 members here that have the 2009 facelift R171. Hopefully they should chime in soon.

Welcome! I have a 09 slk 55 amg. probably not a lot you can do about getting a break on the msrp. wheel and deal for tint, or oem plexiglass windbreaker or clearshield paint protection. my tint and clearshield netted me $1400.

IMHO, the new updated (found in facelift model) COMAND with SAT/NAV and integrated Bluetooth and iPod interface is a good option to get.

You'll regret not getting the premium package. My 06 SLK 280 did not have it and that was a mistake. At least I was able to get the power/memory seats on that car as separate package.
I got my 09 SLK 350 for $500 over invoice and I ordered my car. And I got that price on March 15th well before any pricing for the 09s had been released by M-B. This is in the Washington DC area where there are 6 -7 dealers to play against for deals.

Welcome to the forume. I do have the 09 SLK 350 with the premium 1 package. It was about $3,000 to add it on and I don't think I could go without it now that I have it. I am not sure if you can get the Blue Tooth and Ipod without it though.

As far as a discount it is hard to say. In the Portland OR. area there are two dealerships owned by the same company so you realy can't play the dealers against each other.

You will love the car. It is a blast to drive for sure.

Sorry that I am no help with your questions

Again, welcome! I just drove a '09 350 last week, and I have to say it's a step up from my '06. Same comment on COMAND (P1 package) - it's absolutely a step improvement on the "older" versions - and would be a "must have" in my book.

The one I drove had the sport package and the AMG appearance package as well - it's a demo car for the dealer I visit for my C Class. I've always liked the AMG looks, but was not 100% convinced that it looked "better" than the standard "facelift" versions here in the UK - I *think* it was listed on the sticker at 2,600 GBP.

This one had the 7G transmission, but it's available as a 6 speed manual here are well - something I'd love to try out. The car was loaded - Bi-Xenon, COMAND, airscarf, heated seats, metallic paint, leather, phone kit, park-tronic, upgraded A/C controls, plexi windscreen, mirror kit, heated windscreen wash - the list was literally everything as nearly as I could tell. They were all individual options, not packs - I think it was about 10k in options total.

Sticker on the car was right below 50K GBP, and it was my salesguy taking me for a ride, so he knew I was not going to buy it, but he said that they are not dealing on these at all. Also said he's only sold the 200K versions so far.

All I can say is that spending $100k usd for a 350 - and yes, I still think in dollars - is absolutely insane. I guess given that they had an SL63 in the showrooom for 121K GBP it's not such a bad deal! (and yes, I did leave drool marks on the SL - even though I think I prefer the pre-facelift looks..)

I got my loaded SLK 350 for $500 over invoice with a free plexiglass windscreen. This is with 33k trade-in deal for my 08 c class, which I bought at 38k 8 months ago. I live in Bellevue, Washington and there are four dealers here that could play against.

Smile Got It!

Just as an update to this thread, we ended-up buying the '09 SLK 350 off the lot from our local dealer. It was outfitted as we would have done had we ordered it ourselves (Iridium / Ash / Premium I / Heating), except it unfortunately does not have the lighting package. We did the deal on the last day of the month, and I felt comfortable with pricing. All in all, a good experience.

What a car! My wife loves it. It was tinted yesterday afternoon, and will be in for an exterior detail and clear bra on Monday of next week. Once we get that buttoned-up, I will post some pictures.

The 7G seems to hunt a bit at low throttle inputs, but I am hoping that will disappear as the miles add-up. And add-up they will . . . my wife is planning to use it for her 80 mile-per-day commute!

Thanks to everyone for the helpful responses to my initial post. I am looking forward to sharing more with the board as we enjoy our new SLK.

It is an aftermarket module that allows you to operate the roof using 3 clicks on the remote key (SmartKey) instead of standing next to the door handle, holding and pointing the key to see the roof operate. It allows you to operate the roof from 200 ft away using RF signals. Also allow roof operation when car is in motion, programmable up to 30 mph (not recommended). This module also allows one click operation using the center console roof control lever.

For a US 09 SLK you really want the latest version of the SmartTop module, 3.22.
With it installed it closes all open windows when you close the top using the interior roof control. Without it (as you no doubt have found out) you have to close all the windows manually after the roof is closed. That gets old quick.

My advice is, don't install the SmartTop module for a few weeks if you decide to buy it. Get use to your SLK as it was built and make sure that there aren't any problems before you do "any" mods.

Wise advice. I waited a long 5 days before installing the SmartTop module on my 09 after I took delivery of the car.
