| Right! That was discussed at our Mercedes Club meeting. As we all use our cars for short trips as well as long one, the advice for mid-enterval oil changes was given.

| Mine appears to be up to operating temperature in about a mile (if I recall rightly). I think the heater is putting out heat in less than a mile. |

| So does mine. Yet, for reasons I can't explain, our "panel of experts" at our Mercedes Club meeting all were of the opinion that taking short trips does take its toll on the oil. On my two non-Mercedes vehicles (Honda S 2000 and Ford truck) the owners' manuals say 7K mile oil changes for long distance driving, and 3.5K mile oil changes for cars frequently used for short trips. I'm not smart enough to know the "why of all of this. Another related thing our panel of experts mentioned was on the question of using high change interval synthetic oil (such as Mobil 1) in cars that didn't come with synthetic oil. The consensus was "don't". Their explanation was that the gaskets and fittings in the oil system of some cars are not designed for the thinner viscosity that the synthetics develop at full engine heat, and leaks may be developed. Again, that's what the experts said, but I'm not smart enough to explain it further.
