| Just took the '06 SLK350 to the drag strip. My only mod is green filters and it was 93 degrees outside. Chime in on what times you've seen R171s run! Reaction time: 0.319 1/4 mile time: 14.231 Speed: 98.78 |

| Wonder if the ECU would know or the ET's would benefit from running racing fuel. Old mods- We used to run a "cool can" filled with ice/water that a copper spool the fuel ran through on the side of the fender in the Hurst Olds. Good for 2 10ths. Pulled the 150lb front bumper at the track for another 10th of a second. |

| It was a '73 special order car from the east coast. I had so much fun in that car street and strip. Best e.t. was 12.36. I was also one of those "bad people" who street raced out in an industrial section of San Jose almost every weekend. I can't believe the 55 is comparable because the 55 just doesn't *feel* fast have owned the Olds. On slicks the Olds launched hard enough I got light headed from the acceleration force. Of course the down side was that the car cornered like an oil tanker. Boy the 55 needs more tire... ;-) |

| I'm curious as to what the new 300 HP SLK 350 can do.

| I think it has the potential to be close to the low 13's if added lighter wheels and weight reduction.

| Went again today with my new 19" 360 Forged Spec|5ive wheels. It was only 83 degrees outside, but the car ran slower I did 3 passes and they were all pretty consistent at 14.4Also, I realized that the 1/4 mile times printed on the slip takes into account the reaction time. So in post #1, it actually took me about 14.55 to go from start to finish. So overall the car is 0.2 seconds slower. Oh and every time I've gone, I've gone with a full tank. Next I'm gonna clean the Green Filters, run again, lower the car, run again, and finally try it on an empty tank. |

| Couple things to consider... First, your larger wheels are most likely heavier than stock. Not only are they heavier but since they are a larger diameter, more weight is located on the outer edge. This makes a car slower overall. Second, if you are lowered, even with alignment, you will have a bit more negative camber which means your rear wheels are not getting full traction. This also will play a part in slower times. The few times I've ran at the drag strip, I've mounted my stock wheels. Perhaps you should try the same.

| Thanks Bill. Heading to the track for the 1st time this year on Saturday, if the good weather holds. I'm getting low 1.9s on street tires, so maybe at some point I'll try the DR's - good to know there's another couple tenths right there alone!
