Default Side Mirror Turn Signal Replacement

I know I have seen instructions on how to replace the turn signal in the side mirrors, but I cannot find it by doing a search. Anyone know where to find it??

Since it appears no one has any experience with this, I can officially say I HAVE DONE THIS now - successfully. I took pics thru the whole process and will post a tutorial soon for anyone else that might not want to pay the dealer to do this task.

Stay tuned!!

I'm interested to know how much the new side mirrors cost you.

I did not purchase an entire mirror - the turn signal that goes in the mirror was around $70 US.

OK, here we go:

1.) Purchase turn signal from supplier (dealer). Mine ran around $70 US:

Back:

From this point you will need:

1.) Slender flat head screwdriver
2.) T10 Torx screwdriver
3.) Small Phillip's head screwdriver
4.) Pair of pliers

2.) I was working on the driver's side (US). Using the internal switch, move the mirror as far down as possible and as far out as possible (away from vehicle). Once you do this, you can see a plastic clip behind the mirror.

Take a small flat head screwdriver and gently pry up on the clip while you pull forward on the glass of the mirror. Then use both hands to grasp the glass and gently pull forward. Things will start to unclip and the mirror will disconnect from the housing.

Here is a pic of the back of the mirror glass:

Blue arrows are pointing to some of the retention clips.

3.) Red arrows - disconnect these electrical connections to remove the mirror glass. NOTE: it was easier to use a pair of pliers to remove the white plug.

4.) Mirror motor plate. Use T10 Torx screwdriver to remove three circled screws. Blue arrows pointing to mirror glass electrical connectors. Motor is connected with a wire bundle, but there is no need to disconnect. Gently rest on window sill or hang.

5.) Screws holding mirror housing - removed using T10 Torx.

6.) Grab hold of the mirror housing and pull away and down from the vehicle - wiggle around over mirror internal or "bones". You will have to manipulate the mirror motor thru the opening near the mirror mount to remove the housing.

7.) Using small Phillips screwdriver, remove 2 marked screws

8.) Pull turn signal out of mirror housing.

9.) Install new turn signal and reinstall mirror by following reverse order. The only tricky part is getting the mirror glass clipped back on the mirror motor. Gently and evenly apply pressure around all edges until everything clips back into place. Use the internal switch to make sure everything is still working properly.

I know some of you might be hesitant to do this, but it is not very difficult. I took what little info was out there (not on this site) and was able to do it in an hour. With this, it should take you about 30 minutes.

Oh, one thing. I would highly suggest you place a towel or blanket under the mirror while you are working on it. You don't know how bad it was to watch my painted mirror housing bounce across the garage floor when I accidentally dropped it!!!

Good Luck!!!

Just replaced mine as it was broken using this procedure. Only difference is that the there was no where for the screwdriver to be used when taking off the mirror. I just moved it out and gently used a bit of force to pull the mirror off from one side, then moved the mirror inwards and did the same for the other clip. The mirror then came off. When I took the mirror off, I noticed its back is slighlty different that the one in the picture above, there are no metal clips, only plastic ones that hold the mirror onto the motor unit. (Push on and pull off) (I am in the uk, maybe parts are slightly different). Thanks for the thread anyway. It saved me £60 in dealership labour costs
