Anyone know the Part Number for the UMI that fits into the NEW FL SLK (09). Apparently, is meant for the C-Class, but it can be fitted on the FL SLK. Anyone can confirm and also the part number? Thanks

A 204 827 03 04 but someone has stated that M-B has put a hold on the cables. If you use ************* drop the A when searching for the part number.

Does anyone know if Mydirect parts is still shipping the USB port for the UMI/UCI? I can't get it from my dealer at the moment, and had cancelled my order with ************* because the dealer parts department originally said they would get it in... I'm using the cruddy Aux jack at the moment.

my experience with *************.com was they dont actually have a warehouse or anything.. they are a 'drop shipper'.. means when an order comes in, they have a network of sources ( seems generally that in this case, actual MB dealers ) and if any company in their network has the part, they make the sale and ship it. Thats how it worked on my order.

Looking through the PDF version of the 09 SLK owner's manual the info on supported formats has changed from the print version. Specifically for WMA format the PDF version of the manual states:
WMA (Windows Media Audio)
The audio system supports the following types of audio files:
- fixed bit rates of 5 kbit/s up to 384 kbit/s
- sampling rates from 8 kHz to 48 kHz
The audio system does not support the following WMA files:
- DRM (Digital Rights Management) coded files
- variable bit rates
- WMA Pro
- 5.1 Surround
Of course I recorded all my tunes using variable bit rate which it does play but it often just hangs in the middle of a song.

Hey guys, just got back from a family vacation out to Seattle. had a blast! But man did I miss my SLK out on some of the righteous twisty roads in the great NW. Thinking about looking for a position out there and moving.

Sorry to see that bummer news, WhiteRabbit. Odd too. All of my own rips are mp3's, but in VBR too, and no issues. I'm over 20GB's on my 32GB USB stick and so far, able to access the lot!

Lately, I have given up my deal where I was buying used cd's from a local shop, ripping them, then returning them the next day ( cost 7.99 to buy, then get 2-3$ back on resale, so net was about $5 a disc of ripped music ) and am just buying mp3's off Amazon. They are DRM free which is a BIG plus for me ( portable, multiple device use, etc - No Limits ) and are ripped at 256 mp3. Fast download and stuff. easy, and average cost is 7.99 - 9.99 max.

I think the problem wasn't with VBR mp3s but with VBR WMAs...

Hey guys...

...Here's a spanner for the works...

I've been reading this whole thread, and it seems that the UMI is a one or the other system... i.e. you either plug in USB cable, or iPod cable, or Aux cable... not more than one.

Has anyone tried to plug in a USB hub and run the iPod and several USB mem sticks at the same time ?

(I'm taking no liability for possible ensuing smoke ... )

I don't know about the system, but my guess is that the USB hub would work...sort of.

You will only be able to access the first USB memory stick you inserted. The system has to mount the file system before accessing it, and I think it would only be able to mount one at a time. If it had multiple USB ports then that would be a definite sign that it's capable of mounting more than one, but it doesn't.

When i picked up the cable in Europe, it had the 3 cables separate. So you can only plug in one at a time. The mercedes rep told me that the problem was that people thought they could use all of the cables at once, when you can't. So now the cables come as 3 separate rather than joined (which is what it is now correct?). Hope this helps.

midget fidger: Yeah, that was what I was thinking, but how would the hub assign, as I don't think it's got that much intelligence. The only prob I see is that there is probably not enough current for several devices, so a powered hub would be required.

smoothbnzf4n4tc: Yeah, that's what we are trying to get around. If you plug in a small non-powered USB hub into the USB cable, and plug in 2 small USB mem sticks (i.e. low current and non-powered), which one shows up ? Does stick no.1 show up as DVD 0, and I'm hoping stick no.2 shows up as DVD 7... (wanna give it a bash and let us know ? - DanSLK would this be ok for the car ?)

If it does work, a powered USB hub in the glove compartment would allow any number of USB devices to be added, including an iPod.

This would rock, as you could have a permanent USB drive in the car, and plug in your iPod/iPhone/etc in when you feel like it.

If this is the case, imagine a comand equipted SLK with:
- Command HD - MP3's - 4Gb
- DVD 1 - MP3's - 4.2Gbs
- DVD 2 - MP3's - 4.2Gbs
- DVD 3 - MP3's - 4.2Gbs
- DVD 4 - MP3's - 4.2Gbs
- DVD 5 - MP3's - 4.2Gbs
- DVD 6 - MP3's - 4.2Gbs
- SD Card MP3's - 2Gbs
- USB HUB with
- iPhone USB connection - 16Gbs
- iPod Touch USB connection - 32Gbs
- 128Gb USB Memory stick
- 250Gb 2.5" Hard drive

So... basically 407Gb of MP3's, of course you could just add 4x 250Gb drives and have a Terrabyte in the dash.

With these UMI installed, you enable the ipod cable only or standard comes with the USB and what is the other connection cables? apparently mine has only IPOD cable, am I missing something here?
Now, i can control from the steering wheels , but not from the audio 20 display console. Anyone has the ipod that control from the display console?
I hope MB would comes up with an update of the rom to allow the song name to scroll ...if not, the alphabet display is so little, it can't even display a song that has more than 18 alphabets.
