I just got an update from MBUSA, apparently all US Spec cars manufactured after May '08 have the cable with the three connections, iPod, Aux, and USB included and the price of the package was adjusted by $40. (please don't shoot the messenger, I'm just repeating what I was told). In addtion, the cabled can be ordered, but the head unit needs to be "flashed" to accomidate the USB cable.
That's what I get for buying one of the first (if not the first) 09's sold in the US.
I agree with you Dan. I'm just miffed that I need to now go buy this cable. Its just a feeling of being "nickle and dime'd" with this from MBUSA.
On another note, they still don't understand that since we no longer have the ability to have the windows close with the roof function, that we should have the ability to have the "tear-drop" windows close with the auto-up function on the door mounted switch. Its taken some time to get used to the fact that the windows only come up if I hold the switches up past the main windows closing. I just don't like or understand their logic on this one......
They are still researching the fact that the high-beams do not come on with the lamp switch in the auto position and the running lamps active.
I'd look into using the pre-facelift controllers to put a stop to that roof nonsense.
Dan, is it a big deal to replace the roof controller to give us back the pre-facelift roof functionality? and at what cost? Maybe the smarttop people will get this figured out and I can kill two birds with one "chip", ....
I just received the USB cable for the media interface, it cost me about $30US. IT DOES WORK PERFECTLY, I'm using a 16GB Thumb drive. Now I don't have to leave my iPod in the glovebox
My dealer did order both the set of all three cables and the USB cable separately, both of us not knowing if they may be different. I just kept the USB cable as that is all I needed.
I do love the new COMMAND with the Media Interface, it gives me many options for connectivity, USB, SD memory, MP3 DVDs, Video DVDs, CDs, etc. It also allowed me to copy my contacts from my PC into the address book. The "search and send" feature to send a location from Google or Yahoo maps to my car is also VERY nice.

Do you have the part number for just the USB cable?
The F30-USB cable is labelled A 204 827 03 04, I did use the iPod Touch, and that did work fine. I just didn't like the idea of laving my iPod in the glovebox for any length of time.

Now that is cool. I'm guessing there is an extra charge from TeleAid for the download?

This thread is good news indeed! I was one of the many who took a look inside the '09 glove box and thought to myself "universal media interface my arse". I don't like ipods much and prefer my scandisk player and usb thumb drive. When I saw an aux jack I actually laughed. Couldn't believe anyone at MB would think it a GOOD idea to convert digital MP3 files to an analog signal and back again when they reach the head unit. Too much sound quality loss right there. Thanking my lucky stars I can just order the female USB F30 adapter now, that is if I need to. My car was manufactured this month and will be here at the end of July, so it *might* have all 3 in it already according to a previous post since it was manufactured after May '08.

WhiteRabbit - I tried to go to *************.com and couldn't find the part # A 204 827 03 04. Is that not the website you used to order your usb cable?

Eddy's right leave the letter off. I'm not sure why M-B parts have leading letters but when doing a part lookup you leave it off. Maybe Dan can enlighten us.
So how's the interface with the new stuff? I remember there were complaints of the old iPod interface being pretty bad. Can you actually see a listing of songs and stuff? I think in the old one there was only one line of display .

Yes, at least the UMI version that I have is good. I can search by list, artist, album, genre, ... Shuffle within a list or album or across the entire collection is also available. Search is done alphabetically using the phone keyboard. Not bad...
What bugs me is the limited fixed display for song titles, both on the Audio HU and on the Dashboard display: not enough characters, no rolling text. And on the dashboard display a lot of lost space with the up and down arrows above and below the song title. Plain stupid this. I would have like to see artist, album name and song title all displayed.
Minor rant though... I like the Audio20 with UMI and the iPod attached to this. In fact I hardly use the CD changer anymore...
Cheers,
Keroubim

Thanks for the detail! I wanted to know how well integrated the new ipod interface was. Can't wait to get mine on the 15th!
