They have a few versions of CE (Windows Mobile) all embeded in them, i don't remember the exact version running on the back end stuff but the front end thing's like the COMAND use Windows Automotive.
I don't know if this applies to thing's like the Sat radio since it just comes in a box and MB stuff it in.

I just checked with the parts dept. and they can order me the media interface cable with the three connectors (I hope) for around $100usd. The manual says that the all three connections are available, but the cable that's now in the car only has the two connections, no USB. I don't know why its different here in the US. Maybe the same reason the high beams do not function when the light switch is in the auto mode....very confusing.

The cables are standard with the premium pkg 1 on US 09 SLKs. But missing is a standard USB female socket connector cable. That's what I need, too.
I just got off the phone with my dealer and MBUSA asking why the US spec '09 SLKs do not have the USB connect as indicated in the user manual. MBUSA said that it wasn't available right now. I'm really frustrated that the cable is available except for the US market. All of the press releases, product info, and manual indicates the USB functionality. The manual even takes you through the operation and format, etc.
I hate spending this much money for something that is described as having this functionality and because of a cable, not being able to use it as such.
This is also an issue with the "dumbed down" Navi database. Here in the US you can't find retail shopping. I had to use my Garmin for that and I was hoping that they "fixed" that in the '09s, but it too suffers from that lack of functionality. I can't beleive that they "choose" to use a paired down version of the Navteq database.
I got the p/n from this thread from keroubim. The set of three cables for the UMI has p/n : A 001 827 65 04
Anyone has pix of the cables? Does it have a mini-plug on one end (that plugs into the AUX) and then a USB on the other end?

I agree with vincent. Stateside, it seems like MBUSA is just trying to cut corners everywhere and save everything they can on the car which sucks for the amount of money we're paying, although it's admittedly cheaper than elsewhere.
In addition, what is the integrated IPOD interface like in the facelift? Can you play playlists, shuffle songs within a playlist, etc. or is it just play all songs?
I bought a Sony Xplod for my current car and it's ipod interface is pretty lacking. You can't shuffle songs within a playlist and it's generally pretty limited.
The Media Interface allows me to have full access to the iPod's playlists, artists, albums, etc. all on the command screen. I just wish I had the USB connection so I could store the MP3s on a thumb drive and not worry about leaving the iPod in the glovebox.

Etyu, I don't have a pic right here, but the cable has a female USB plug on one end and a male "F30" plug on the other end. There is no aux-in in the glovebox but a female "F30" plug.
I also have a cbale with iPod male plug and F30 male plug, as well as a cable with Aux-in female plug and F30 male plug.
The F30 reference is what is engraved on the plug itself. I had never seen a plug like this. Multiconnectors on a thin rectangular overall shape.
The USB stick and iPod are both selected via Disk0 of the CD changer. When the AUXin-F30 cable is used, one should select Disk7 of the CD changer.
Disk1 to 6 are normal CD in the magazine, with audio or MP3 tracks.
All of this with the Audio20 on SLK280 Phase 2.
I posted the parts number above in the thread. Vinny, can't they simply order a single cable if you give them the part number ? It was not clear from your message...
Cheers,
Keroubim

Keroubim, My dealer is trying to order the cable, but for some strange reason the order was "dropped". He is trying again. The cable we have in the states has both the iPod connector and the AUX connector in a "Y" configuration connected to the "F30" connection in the glovebox. Am I correct in assuming that there are three separate cables or is there one cable with all three connections available (iPod, USB, AUX)?
I just got off the phone with a MBUSA Escalation Specialist and I was told that they decided to not implement the USB feature because there were issues and that MBUSA has a disclaimer that they can modify or eliminate any feature they deem appropriate. What a bunch of bull*. I chose this option based upon this functionality and now everywhere else has the option except the US market.
Am I the only one here in the states that is bothered by this?

Vince, I guess the other way to get this cable (in the US) is to order it through members that are in Europe.

It bugs me, too as I have a Zune 2 player and can't use it with the car. The indash 6-CD changer is nice but being able to use a USB thumb drive or my Zune would rock. M-B finally has an entertainment system that rivals Japanese cars and then does something bone-headed like this.

Guys, the wife is flying over on the 19th from London - if we can get Dan to find us one and get it down to London by Wednesday night, I'm more than willing to pass it along to someone with an '09 to try on Friday...
Makes zero sense that they would disable USB for the states?! Wonder if apple pulled a fast one and required it?
Never thought of "that", but that makes the most sense of any of the explanations. I just couldn't accept MBUSA's answer that they were having problems with it working. Yeah, maybe they couldn't get it to work correctly with Apple's lawyers
I just got an update from MBUSA, apparently all US Spec cars manufactured after May '08 have the cable with the three connections, iPod, Aux, and USB included and the price of the package was adjusted by $40. (please don't shoot the messenger, I'm just repeating what I was told). In addtion, the cabled can be ordered, but the head unit needs to be "flashed" to accomidate the USB cable.
I agree with you Dan. I'm just miffed that I need to now go buy this cable. Its just a feeling of being "nickle and dime'd" with this from MBUSA.
On another note, they still don't understand that since we no longer have the ability to have the windows close with the roof function, that we should have the ability to have the "tear-drop" windows close with the auto-up function on the door mounted switch. Its taken some time to get used to the fact that the windows only come up if I hold the switches up past the main windows closing. I just don't like or understand their logic on this one......
They are still researching the fact that the high-beams do not come on with the lamp switch in the auto position and the running lamps active.
