It could be just a cable needed or it might not be on the factory unit.

did you order the Universal Media Interface as option ? was it part of a package maybe ? In my glovebox, there is no Aux-in female plug. Instead there is special female plug. I had to buy separately as accessory a set of three cables : one with the corresponding male plug on one end and an iPod male plug on the other, one ditto but with a USB female plug, and the last one ditto but with a female Aux-in plug. I can get the MB parts number if interested... From then on, it's plug and play. Cheers, Keroubim

| Not to high jack the thread but that's one thing that disappoints me about MB when it comes to the SLK. Such an advanced vehicle manufacturer technology wise, yet for example the 350 (pre-facelift) i'm about to get shortly (which is an awesome vehicle btw) won't even have an ipod interface and from what i read unless it has COMAND there's no chance of a retrofit unless its via the aux and i heard some don't even have an aux to begin with... What's up with that though, even my BMW has all of that in it... damn... The SLK is a great vehicle but i'm big on audio and that's one let down for me personally. /rant ![]() |

To be honest, I've not been impressed with the MB iPod kit. It works, but barely, and yeah, I've seen much better integration on much cheaper cars (not saying your BMW is cheap!). If I recall, though, iPod integration is an option on the BMW's as well, isn't it? I have a friend in the states who picked up a pretty basic Z4, and I though he was griping about no iPod goodness as well...

| Leave it to the US market to be different. My cable only has two connections, the iPod connector and the AUX female input connector, no USB..... If someone has a p/n I will call my dealer and ask him what is up with that? Vinny |

| To mtiede - i think thats only partly true, fair enough it doesn't need a TV on the underside of the hood nor does it need speakers so powerful they can make your filling's tap dance and the only car's that need to playback DVD movies are big model's like the E, S and Maybach (to be fair here the DVD vid function in the SLK is probably only from the shared E software and not something MB actually think we need) nor are we asking for those features BUT it's nice to be able to have a decent sound system that can produce nice clean sounds and accept the popular formats/inputs of the day. MB have the clean sounds thing down (perhaps not the best they can do in the SLK but it's still very good and MB can create something fabulous when they want) but much like you would not buy a car stereo that only offers a tape deck anymore the CD on the move is on it's way out and its being replaced by portable devices such as the iPod. Obviously they can't give full integration to every device on the market but the iPod is one of the most popular and for those who use other devices a high capacity USB stick can hold some large music library's without the hassle of swapping CD's and in some cases DVDs. To not offer some sort of well thought out integration for solid state devices in today's market is no different to only offering a tape deck when the CD was king.

| The cables are standard with the premium pkg 1 on US 09 SLKs. But missing is a standard USB female socket connector cable. That's what I need, too.
