Default Voice Control on 09 comand

Hey all,

not much has been said about the voice control feature of the new comand on my09 so here goes. the manual for comand (not spelled command) is thicker than the owners manual. it basically covers the voice procedure and comands for navigation, radios, cd charger, etc. if it is controlled thru the comand, there is a voice feature for it. anyone who drives the car can use the voice comand but you can take a 5 min walkthru that teaches the system you digits and words. the voice comand activating is on the stalk on the right side of the steering wheel. you pull it toward you to activate and away to cancel. a sequence might be:

cd player
next track or
previous track

for phone, you might say:
phone
dial number
you speak the number and 'she' repeats it
when finished with number you say
'ok'

there are other comand words to use.

like talking to that female computer on star trek that is getting fresh with kirk!

if you have any questions, i am not the expert having only having the car 4 days and reading the manual twice but i will look it up for you.

now that i can put my top down (tint cured) i will attempt inside pictures.

Oh and have a nice Memorial Day to those who have served. (Myself retired US Army 20 years)

Thanks for the info. Glad to see some state of the art refinements to the 2009 audio, NAV, and Bluetooth phone systems. Looking forward to some pics of the Comand NAV system when you have a chance. And a happy Memorial day to you.

Thats how the new command is, it looks nice as I've always thought it was the smaller version shown in the official facelift unveiling interiors of the SLK55 AMG.

It's kind of funny, I was given an 08 manual and told an 09 manual would be mailed to me... Oh well... Have a great memorial day weekend yourself. Retire Air Force after 20 years...

The 09 SLK has one on the MBUK site but no COMAND (Cockpit Management And Navigation Display, had to go on a course to learn that!) manual.

But if you've read the book sized manual for your age car then the basics will be the same and the UI is fairly simple to work out.

Digitally creating an analog radio dial seems odd to me. Anyone else? What purpose does that linear dial serve? And is that clock oval? That seems odd too. Maybe it is just my critical programmer's eye.

In any case, thanks for the photos. Very interesting to see.

I wonder how that voice control works with the top down and being passed by a truck or while talking with a passenger..

Regardless, the intent is a step forward. Seems like a lot of neat features, and a new look. The SD memory slot is a great feature. My wife's previous Cadillac CTS had NAV, XM, multi disc cd changer with voice commands. I tried the voice commands and finally realized it was easier to do it manually. I'm sure with some effort, the voice commands would be second nature. I like the look of the new design, black buttons etc. Curious about the Nav display, not much detail on the map?

Not so great with the top down at >100km. More for top up operation, but still "way cool".

Am I right to think that you can stick a 16 giga memory card in the slot.. and play all the music under the sun? if this is correct, who needs an iPOD connection now?

Agreed, you need the ipod for the long hours of transit at airports.

I tend to agree here, the UI is very user friendly and well laid out but i also get the why bother doing that feeling.

I don't understand why you would imitate old tech, even if the stuff behind the scenes is high tech.
