Default question smarttop v 3.1

hello all

just finished installing smarttop v 3.1 on my new09 slk 55.

question. using remote, 3 click top goes up and windows close.

but when in car and tap on center console 1x to close roof and roll all windows up, it does not shut any of the windows.

funtion 2 is set at 2=ignition off allowed. i put it back to setting 1=on and it also does not shut the windows. i have to shut manually.

any ideas? thanks

Someone (IIRC, WhiteRabbit) did post that the roof control lever on the center console doesn't work like before (not because of SmartTop) but MB has changed the "instructions" in MY 2009. Two clicks on the center roof control lever doesn't work on the windows either. After the roof is raised (using center console control button), the windows have to be closed manually using the window control buttons on the door panel. First the main windows, and if you continue to push and hold, then the quarter panel windows.

thanks for quick reply etyu. emailed mods4cars anyway. will wait until car cools before attempting filters and those darn clear markers again

another question. when i program the speed, what is the sound the car makes to confirm? a horn sound, 2 horn sounds, a beep? i heard all three

but i must say, this install of the smarttop was quiker then the vario roof mod. i spent 3 hrs with that and 2 hrs taking that canbus cover off. this time i followed your advice and additionally approached it from the back. didn't break anything for a change

As noted above, this is exactly what I found on my 09. It still annoys me that the windows do not go up with the top when using the inside roof button. More than once I raised the top and got out of the car before I noticed that the windows were still down. Even that would not be so bad if a double-click of the roof button raised all the windows like it does on earlier model cars. Bummer. I could use the key to raise the top & windows after I get out of the car but don't like to do that as it is drain on the car's battery.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. You should be able to raise/lower the roof several times on battery power alone without negatively affecting it.

I think it was just a single chirp when it engaged but I did it 3 weeks ago and can't be sure now. I think it gave 2 chirps when I tried to lower the top while the car was moving but before I had set the speed limit for it.

IIRC, on mine it was a single beep while I was at 30 mph. There were no horn sounds.

Jbanks, did you notice (before SmartTop install) if the car would chirp on lock/unlock (on the MY 2008 it would, so I didn't do the reseat fuse procedure)? On the SmartTop install, did you reseat a fuse in the engine compartment fusebox (driver side)? This may explain why you have a horn sound on top of the beep.

If you raised the roof already while parked and you notice the windows are still down as you walk away, just use two clicks on the SmartKey lock button, and the SmartTop will close the windows for you.

before install, 09 does chirp once on unlock and 3 on lock. i did not do the fuse reseat. so i think i heard the horn and not a chirp. anyway so far i can put it up or down at less than 30 mph which is the area i set it at.

I have mine set at 30 mph but only retract/raise the roof at parking lot speed (5-15 mph), no speed bumps. This way the roof won't stop midway if for some reason one goes a tad faster than the programmed speed limit.

Actually I have the window activation on two key clicks turned off. Twice in the pouring rain I hit the unlock button twice while running towards the car and of course all the windows went down. So rather than risk soaking the car I don't use that feature of the SmartTop. I could also just use the IR feature of the key to raise the windows if I'm close enough to a door for it to work.

Guys - any one want to point me to a good vendor for a SmartTop? (Forum sponsor?)
