I love SLKs as I'm on my second but resale value is not as good as I hoped. On my 06 SLK 280 I lost about 13% a year when I traded it in (I got $900 above KBB excellant condition from the dealer). Of course I was spoiled by my previous car a 04 Infiniti G35 Coupe which only lost 10% a year,.

Jbanks,

So your SLK350 was mostly stock are you willing to upgrade this times, performance wise such as green filters and x pipe ? They make the car sound impressive and not obnoxiously loud.

hesitant about the green filter. had 3rd party filters got from germany (won't say the name of dealer) and after a year they disintegrated and almost blew out my maf. might take a chance on green. i am an old fart so other than the eurolights and smarttop, that is the extent of my modding.

Congrats on the 55. You will love it. The sound and power is intoxicating. I think you will be surprised by the power difference between the two.

Disclaimer: I have no relation with the makers, distributors or resellers of Green Air Filters.

I've had Green Air Filters for about 12 months on the prior 280, with an occasional removal of the air filter box to clean out debris every 4 to 6 months. There were no signs of failure or cracking and this was with an older style Green Air Filter, where a bad batch was reported.

I now have Green Air Filters in the current 55 for almost 9 months. (OEM paper filters were changed within a week of taking delivery). I've checked them 3x (so almost every quarter) and they look fine.

I do take the Green Air Filters out and "dry clean" them. I keep 2 pairs, one pair installed and the other awaiting to be cleaned or already cleaned and ready for the next cycle.

No failure on the Green Air Filters and no MAF issues so far (knock on wood).

Hope the above helps.

eddy, no pointing fingers at all at 'green'. it was a sports filter from across the pond. probably will go with green.

I didn't think you were pointing fingers at any particular product. Just wanted to post my experience.

I wonder if the one product that failed had any reinforcing mesh on each side of the filter or not.

Anyway, this morning I took out the Green Air Filters and placed the OEM paper filter. I did about 35 miles of driving and noted a more muffled sound from the exhaust (at 70 mph, roof retracted) and a loss of 2-3 mpg with no change in driving style/habit.

I quickly changed back to the Greens after "dry cleaning" them in the afternoon. I calculated roughly 2 US gal of fuel savings for every tankful with the Greens, and at $4/gal, 20 tankfuls ($8 saving per tankful) will pay off the cost of the Greens (including shipping). I guess one can say the Green Air Filters are green in more ways than one

My "dry cleaning" method involves the following:

1. Tap the air filters against a clean cardboard with moderate force with the dirty side down towards the cardboard. This removes most of the particulate matter. I repeat this several times until there's no more stuff on the cardboard.

2. Gentle air pressure from the clean to the dirty side with compressed air at 2 atmospheres from about one foot distance.

3. Remove any left over debris, e.g., small insects, winged seeds, with pointed tweezers.

4. Hold air filter against bright light to check for cleanliness.

As the recommended cleaning is not until 30,000 to 50,000 miles (from the manufacturer) using their cleaning kit. I believe the above will be okay until such time. I, however, plan to just get a new pair instead of using the cleaning kit as I'm worried about spraying too much oil on the thing.

Nope. It comes with a generic silver colored plastic tire pressure cap. TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is standard, so you'll notice the tire "nipple" or tire pressure valve stem looks different. It will have a hex nut at its base instead of the black rubber.

Default TPMS valve Stem

Yes you can.

I remember someone's post about using caution with the aftermarket metal valve stem caps on the flexible black rubber valve stem. It scratched the paint work/metal on the wheels during rotation, most likely due to the heavier weight of the metal caps. I am not sure that this will be a problem with the TPMS valve stems as they look less flexible than the black rubber stems. Just something to be aware of.

Here's a pix of the TPMS valve stem.
