Default I Love That Slk!

I LOVE our SLK. My wife and I took a day trip yesterday to visit family in western Virginia. We left mid day, warm, dry weather, definitely a top down day. The SLK was clean and shiny, looking like a million bucks. Had a wonderful trip and enjoyed driving the SLK. Coming home at eight at night, it was too cool to drive two hours, top down. I'm surprised how quiet the SLK is with the top up. Most of my experience is short, top down, driving. Had a great Sirius station on, enjoying the drive and company. I realized what a great car the SLK is, two very distinct cars in one (hardtop and convertible). It's such a classy, beautiful car and it makes life so enjoyable. Fuel mileage on the way home averaged 30.8 mpg @ 69 mph (cruise control). My smiles per mile, infinite. It drives like a larger vehicle, it's so strong, yet quiet and smooth. Didn't see another SLK (R170 or R171) all day. They're so unique. To sum it up, I couldn't be more pleased with this wonderful car. Note to to self, you "done" good when you bought this car. I want a 2008 SLK 55 or 63. Can it get any better?

Really? I went to this part of the US and I thought the weather was absolutely ideal for convertibles. Nights are so much warmer than in Montréal. I must admit I am a convertible maniac!!! I drove my car comfortably with the hood down at 0,5ºC/33ºF. With the windows up and the Airscarf and heater on, there's no problem especially if you have a good windshield.

I totally agree with you. This car is a great hardtop as well. It is so pleasant to drive that I find myself looking for excuses to go on short "nowhere" trips. Two days ago, I was bored so I drove to Ontario and back just for the fun of it.

That was us trembling. The western part of Virginia is in the mountains. It wasn't super cold, but too cool for comfort. We already had a wonderful day with the top down, so we weren't disappointed.

My wife and I just spent the last 2 1/2 days in Staunton Virginia about the same area as mentioned above. It's about 150 miles from Arlington where we live. Except for the beginning of the trip when it was raining the top was down the whole time on the SLK and it was wonderful. The temps ranged from 60 degrees F to 79 degrees F and we were comfortable the whole time. Even used the air scarf when it got a tad nippy at night. We got back this morning doing 75 MPH for most of the trip, top down the whole way. Averaged 29.7 MPG, too. The SLK is awsome!!

The important thing is to enjoy oneself. When hood-down driving becomes less pleasant due to excessive noise, rain, wind or cold, it is time for hardtop driving. Besides, this car is just as enjoyable to drive with the hood on. And it looks just as good too!

As MB puts it: it is two cars in one -- Roadster and Coupe. (Two cars for the price of one )

I couldn't agree more! And I get just as many compliments for the coupé as for the roadster. Banana time!

Truer words could not be said! It's a tight as a drum hard top coupe, or a semi-exotic top-down roadster. And THEN there is the Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde personality of the '55 - easy to drive as a Toyota Corolla which suits her just fine, or lurking just beneath that mild mannered demeanor is a rip-snorting tire shredding monster just BEGGING to be let out - which I do quite often and suites ME just fine!

Yes, I figured it out when I tried to use it and I saw the dirty word appear! I thought it was a guy pumping something but it did look a little suspicious. Why is there such a smilie here? I cannot possibly think of a use for it (without being insulting to someone). I think I shall stick to the good old banana!
