Default Door Light

Hello to all the forum!

I've just buy a 2006 SLK 200 Black and I see that the car doesn't have the door light for foot area illuminating once the door is open. Pratically is the light that is assembled in the bottom part of the door and came with the interior light package.

Is it possible to install as a retrofit?
Has anyone do it?

For me it would be very useful because I'm living in a dark country area.

Thanks guys.

Are you sure you actualy dont have the light fitted at all? It could have just blown a bulb.

If its not fitted you can retrofit it simple enough really its just a short length of wire and a bulb holder.

My prior 280 did not have the convenience package (as labeled in the US), so there were no ambient lighting. The area underneath the door will show a rectangular indent where the light fixture would be. This will have to be punched/cut out and I don't know if the wiring loom/harness is already inside the door panel or not.

I'm fairly certain that Dan can figure a way to get the lamp assembly (this has the lampholder, wedge 5W, and translucent shield molded as one) connected.

Default Light assembly not present

Thanks for the reply! This forum is simply fantastic!

I saw from the bottom of the door that are present the housing (rectangular indent) for the lights.

I'm just thinking to assembly the lights by myself but I don't know were to find the lamps assembly.

Does anyone know if the wiring harness is already present?

Thanks

If you have the indentation's in the bottom of the door's then what you need to do is cut those out so you have a hole for the light fitting then you simply install the harness from the door controller to the fitting and your done.

The fitting can be brought from MB and i doubt the harness is installed but its only 2 wires so its very easy to make.

Default Pix and Part No.

Below are couple of pix of the door lamp:

door lamp at bottom of the door panel towards the rear edge

detail of door lamp assembly (molded part no. 203 820 08 01), use small flat head screwdriver to pry loose the rear part, bring rear part down as it pivots and then slide out:

Thank you very much for the pictures an the part number! Now everityng is clear!
Tomorrow I'll go to my MB dealer to ask for the lamps... I'm going to install them on the next week if I found the parts!

Maybe I will take some picture in order to make a step by step procedure for the forum.

That would be great.

I hope there's a wire harness in there somewhere with the connector on each door. If not, Dan may be able to tell us how to do the wiring.
