Default Lambo Doors, anyone do it? How high do they go?

My wife has been bugging me for these. I thought they were kinda cheesy but a bunch of people have been saying how cool they would be. It's her car so I will probably get them just to make her happy if there are no downsides?

I was looking at these for $750

http://www.myhotmercedes.com/mercede...oor_Kit/534455

I'm a bit worried though because we have overhead storage in our garage and I'm afraid that the doors if they are raised up will ding against the metal storage racks.

Does anyone know if you can still just open your doors out and not up with these types of things? Are there any other potential problems I need to look out for?

THANKS!

B55 has them, i think they do move outward slightly still so they don't just go straight up.

The problems i think are the alignment that's bound to go out over and over.

I think Lambo doors are kind of cool as far as the overall look. I was even tempted to have them installed when I bought my car. However, I figured that unless one wants to park in extremely narrow spaces they are not really practical and they are chiefly meant to make the car look "wilder". I was also afraid of the potential leaking and misalignment problems, let alone the warranty implications (where I live, MB can be fussy when it comes to third-party modifications). Being a rather careful person, I was not ready to take that risk just to make my car look more impressive. I also polled my friends and co-workers and most of them found these doors extremely tacky and show-offy. I don't agree, of course, but it made me think...

B55 doesn't come here much anymore, if you want to PM him, go to 6speedonline, his id is Barrister, he hangs out at the 997 Turbo section a lot last time I'd checked.

You can opened them like normal doors, they go outward first before they go up, at least the ones I've seen. There are a few version,

it is obviously the wrong thread to state this, since sportydog is apparently in need of a boost to take the step, however my european rather conservative taste oblidges me to:

i don't like gullwing doors on the r170/r171. let that for some slrs, or lambos, or other exotics, if at all. the slk is not an exotic, and the door extravaganza will not make it one.

there i said it; sorry to disappoint.

best of luck with yr choice and no offence meant.

SportyDog,

Don't listen to all this crap as everything is totally untrue.

I have had this mod for 3 yrs now and I have not had any alignment problems what so ever. Now I do not have the ones that you are looking at but I LOVE mine and get nothing but compliments on how good they look on my R170.
Mine came from lsd-doors.com. LSD Doors have been crash tested to prove that they are safe and I'm not sure that any of the other companies can say that they crash test their product but if so good for them.
This mod has been one of the highlights of my car against all of the other mods this one is the most talked about.
They also look fantastic on the R171 but you should do your research on LSD-Doors and other manufacturers and check if they crash test theirs. Verticle Doors, Inc is another one that I have seen but they only open 10 degrees and you have to lift them up to get out of the car I have been told.
LSD-Doors open 30 degrees and I can open them like normal if in a bad location and no one will ever know that I have had this mod done.
As far as having to choose narrow spaces to park is also wrong....the doors do not open as wide as regular doors so you actually will have more room then opening a regular door all the way.

I also live in Dallas so if you'd like to see them in person maybe we can hook up for lunch or something.

Most people do not like this mod but it has been one of the best mods I have ever done and well worth the price to do it.

Do it, Do it, Do it!!....You wont be sorry!

The LSD kit is know to be that of high quality, I woudlnt install it in my car because I dont like it however if I was forcing my self in doing so LSD-doors is the manfucturer I would spend in getting to have installed.

Easy tungster mate, just people expressing opinion's cause we aint' all gonna like the same things.

As for the alignment i did say "i think" because I've never seen them myself and let's be fair unless the car is properly water tested we won't know for sure because eye's are not good enough thats why we have to use the templates and i stand by the comment because i don't see how the hinge can properly support the door.

Dan.......Its all good as i was not pointing the finger at you in any way. I have done many car washes and do not have any leaking from any of the doors at all........but unless I can get the car into a swimming pool and test the leaks that way I would say that they are solid.
Easy to open and just as easy to close just like day one.

Opinions are all good but its the part of giving information on something that they have never owned and know nothing about.

SportyDog....if you want to know more please message me and we can talk.

Obviously some differences in opinions. I think everyone handled themselves in a dignified manner.
