Default Stupid Question, are there '05 slk 350 AMG's?

I bought my wife an SLK350 a couple weeks ago, my mother in law bought one too like 2 days after. She's in Cali, I'm in Texas so I haven't seen her car.

My wife is out there visiting and she said it says AMG on it. I'm not entirely sure what AMG means, but I thought it was something on newer cars?

It probably has a Sports package exterior which consists of a AMG chin spoiler, AMG sideskirts, AMG rear valance, lowered suspension and 17" AMG wheels.

Yeah i agree with Mo, if it still says SLK350 then it probably means they have the AMG sport's pack fitted.

AMG by the way is Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach, its just the tuning arm of Mercedes.

As Dan said, AMG is like the M cars for BMW, SRT cars for Chrysler/Dodge, -F cars for Lexus, etc. They're the performance-oriented car in each class (SLK, SL, S, CLK, CLS, CL, etc) made by AMG.

That being said, there is no such thing as an SLK350 AMG, the AMG is the SLK55. Basically, someone stuck the AMG badge on the back for whatever reason. Now, it is possible to get the AMG sports package for the SLK350 that is purely cosmetic, but it doesn't make it an AMG (different engine, interior, etc).

I asked a coworker of mine the other day if he had seen the website where they show all the builders of the AMG engines.......he has an S series with AMG on it.....

He told me he didn't have a signed engine since it wasn't a real AMG.

"All AMG engines are hand built using a "one man, one engine" philosophy at the current AMG plant in Affalterbach, Germany. To signify this, each AMG engine builder stamps the engines they produce with an engraved plaque depicting their signature."

Hopefully we can skirt around that bit in this one since some people (those who keep the type designation) simply mean this car has an AMG bodykit fitted then they aren't really doing anything wrong to be fair to them.

I think thats probably the case here and its just saying i have AMG bodywork so no harm no foul.

thats not nessecarily true....they only started to add an engraved plaque to AMG cars made after 2003....so your friend could have an AMG if his car is 2002 and older..

cheers

Thats true but i'm sure he would have replied "my cars too old for that" instead of "its not a real AMG" if that was the case.
