I have read that the 2009 SLK will have a new Comand Headunit - ?Comand APS NTG 2.5. I have searched the net to try and find out some specifics about this unit, but I have only found some non-specific generic comments. Is anyone familiar with the features of this unit. Is it istalled in anyother MB 2008 cars where a review might be avilable? Specifically I am wondering about:

Specifically I am curious to know:

- does it have a touch screen.
- does the ipod intergration come standard
- does ipod integration use the Comand display
- is bluetooth already integrated or do you still need the puck
- is it really better than the current Comand APS 50

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with details. thanks

Answered above.

My understanding is that it's the same functionality as in the latest C-Class, which is a huge improvement over the older Comands.

I continued to search the net and I stumbled upon this site. I think this is an interactive demonstartion of the new Comand Unit. Thought others might be interested.

Some features look nice, but to be honest it seems a bit complicated.

Supposedly the Nav portion is via HHD. Since I'm buying a US spec, will I be able to load European maps (since I live in Germany). You'd think this would be a no brainer, but I'm told it may not be possible? Anyone have any input. Thanks.

I agree with Tummy on all but the last question, the new unit is basically the same system but with a different interface so you don't gain anything over a well spec'd current model.

Just as an aside the COMAND APS and APS 50 are totally different units.

Are there likely to be any software updates for existing comand units to add any of the new 2009 features?

You also get the "birds eye view" instead of simply looking down like with a map. I have some more info at home so I will have a look tonight when I get in.

PS Look below, managed to access it from work, its also BT too, I'll see if I have anything else. This is from a UK spec btw.

Cockpit Management and Navigation Display - COMAND (including DVD changer and linguatronic)
Includes radio, hard disk drive (HDD) map navigation system with TMC (Traffic Message Channel) and Linguatronic voice control. Also includes a SD card slot, 4GB music register and an integrated CD/DVD changer (6 disc) with MP3 compatibility.
The DVD function for COMAND is audio and video capable.
