Need advice on 19" wheels - Page 2

Woah. Something is making contact. Like mentioned above, raise the car and see if the rear tires can rotate freely. Problem is, you will have to leave the E-brake off and put the car in neutral. Otherwise, the rear tires will not spin. I would find a flat surface and use several blocks of wood. In addition, lift the car just enough so that the rear tire only clears the ground.

I just wonder where is it making contact? Is the E-brake somehow engaged? Is the tire making contact with the shock?

Better figure this out sooner than later.

BTW, if you are in drive and release the brake, does the car inch forward?

Also, I wonder if it could be long lugbolts. Like Ynot mentioned, it is usually a clacking or ticking noise. Maybe your bolts are so long that they are somehow engaging the e-brake. That is just a guess as I am not familar with e-brake assembly.

8.5" in the front and 9.5" in the rear. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 225/35/19 in the front and 255/30/19 in the rear. Yeah it looks like there's a slight gap between the end of the wheel and the end of the tire...the tire installer said it was because of the tire design, I dunno.

i went with 8 and 9 inch wheels just to avoid that gap and to offer the wheels a hint of protection from curb scrapes...

I'm one person with one opinion. It appears the tire size you selected is too small for the wheel width. There are recommended SAFE tire sizes for wide wheels. A good tire shop should have cautioned you. You might consult them one you get the noise issue resolved. Good luck.

Yeah, if I'm in drive and release the brake then the car moves forward like normal. I guess I'll take it in to the dealership sometime. But I just washed and waxed it this weekend

There's no noise when I release the brake.

Sounds like rubbing to me, not sure what's rubbing though, hopefully the dealer will find the problem.

Got the car back...they say its a problem with the brake pads. They're not bad, but they're just making noise. I might get some low-dust ones or something and have my independent mechanic put them on. Any recommendations? I'm just glad it's not a complication with the wheels! Will be lowering and aligning it soon.

hmm....could be your wheel bolts are too long, and actually hitting the handbrake mechanism?? i had that problem and had to use shorter wheel bolts, but the noise was louder slightly. try it out anyway.
your car looks superb, nice wheels and lovely colour...however i owuld definately lower, it will make it sit way more aggressivly and i guarantee you will prefer the look of the car once it has settled on its new springs.

No previous problems with brake noise. I'll deal with it haha.

My mechanic and I installed the lowering springs today. At first he said the job would take 8 or 9 hours and the rear would be a huge pain. But I showed him Ynot's directions (http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171...ved-today.html and http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=137543)
and we were able to get the whole car done in 2 hours. Doing the front with the spring compressor was kinda scary so I def wouldn't suggest someone doing it on his own if he's not comfortable. Here's the finished result...more pictures to come sometime in the next week or two.

Big thanks to Ynot for helping me out since the start!!

I justed ordered the 19" DCR's in the 8.5 and 9.5 size. What is the recommondations on the tire size to avoid this gap and will the extra width cause any rubbing etc. Should I also go with 8 and 9's for the wheel sizes?

actually i dun mind the gap at all.
i saw a lot of racing cars with gap like that but racing car is racing car they change wheel like change underwear.

i think 235-265 is the safest u can bet
