Default Time to say goodbye

I'll be leaving you shortly (although I will check back from time to time) as I have just sold my SLK55 AMG back to the supplying dealer for a surprisingly good price. I was very sad to see it drive away when they came to collect it earlier though

I've had 32 enjoyable months with the car, but it's four years since I ordered it, so it seems like longer. The car has been superb, it has had three minor warranty faults but they were all taken care of swiftly and professionally by the local dealer, and it averaged 22 mpg (imperial) which is pretty good for such performance. The local MB dealer has been first class both with the SLK and my E320 (also being sold soon) so my fears about the less than stellar reputation of MB dealers in the UK proved to be completely unfounded. Both this aspect and the personal factory collection scheme which was excellent means it is very likely I will be back with Mercedes-Benz at some point.

Due to a change in usage patterns I am getting something more economical and a lot slower (for now anyway). It's a BMW 330d M Sport Coupe with practically every option on the list including some that weren't available on the SLK like keyless go, active cruise control, active headlamps, voice control etc. The clincher was a 19% discount direct from BMW UK thanks to work contacts, and I can buy a new BMW in any spec I like every 12 months with the same discount if I wish. Unfortunately it doesn't extend to M powered models though. The manual 330d is quick enough (231 bhp/368 lbs ft/6.2 secs to 60/155 mph) but averages 46.3 mpg so it's a good compromise, plus road tax is really cheap. I still have the '65 Mustang when I need some V8 fun at the weekends, and when the E320 goes I will have space for something else interesting, so it's all good.

I have some fitted luggage for the SLK which is now surplus to requirements:

http://www.roadsterbag.co.uk/Mercede...g-luggage.html and scroll down to R171

New it costs 179 Euros but I'll take £50 if anyone in the UK is interested. It's like new, and still in the original box. It was only ever used once actually.

Anyway it's been fun, and I'd like to thank everyone who has made it so on this forum and the other ones. I didn't want to just disappear like quite a few people from back in '04/'05 seem to have done. I'll be seeing you around

Steve, Thanks for being a contributor to this forum and thanks for not just vanishing. Is the 330D diesel powered? We don't have that model designation in the US.

Sorry to see you had to let the SLK go, but you have to do what you have to do.

Don't be a stranger.

Thanks for the contributions!

I would buy the 330d too if they sold it in the US, it looks like a great car. Congrats on your new purchase and do stick around.

Steve

Sorry to see a fellow UK member leaving the fold. Your BM sounds like a cracker - hope you enjoy it.

I suspect Goldie has beaten me to it re the luggage but if for any reason it's still available, please PM me.

Cheers

peter

Thanks for all the kind words.

I see the dealer has 'my' car for sale now at a strong price for a 31 month old car:

http://www.mercedes-benz.motortrak.c...l&vid=13863314

If you assume the essential options on a new car would cost £53K then it's only a 19% saving over a new one Kind of weird seeing it on there instead of on my driveway.

Yours is a well taken care of SLK, it shows and the price is very very strong for a 3 year old car.
