Not on my car but i have seen it this is a shop job to fix i am afraid because it involves things like airbags and very precise torque settings and the difficult bit re-initialisation with the SDS and unfortunately thats not so easy to do at home don't worry about it mate the warranty will cover it no problems.

Just don't let anybody sit in it until it is fixed and do not use the motors whatever you do they will burn out real easy with the extra stress that is being imposed on them.

Play the safety card with the dealer and say you want it done asap.

Hope this helps

Dan

I am sure just using the motors a few times wont hurt it so don't worry about that just now you know it is broken it is best to leave it alone as the extra stress that is placed on the motors if you keep using them can burn them out.

As etyu says keep us posted

Thats going to cost MB a lot of money to fix.

Make sure he squeezes every bit of compensation he can out of them, how the hell did they do that was it ramp damage or something since the numberplate is intact.

they couldnt give him a courtesy car as he has a international licence. he was way too nice to them. they wouldnt even tell him where the car was and if he could see it. i managed to get them to let him see the car yday, and on fri the service guy said it would take minimum 10 days to repair.

another problem is its got a bodykit by the japanese company WALD, they said they would replace but i fear it may take them time to source

im taking over tomorrow. we r not going to greedy or fussy, just will ensure all is put right properly and swiftly. i think thats fair and if they cant do that then all hell will break loose

I undestand how you feel, Vin. How did they manage to do that?

This happened to me on my 1998 420 SEL (my first MB car) at what is now Fletcher Jones Motorcar (no reflection on them). It was the first service (first 1000 miles), the technician backed out the car with the driver door open and CRUNCH, messed up the driver door bad. They did fix it and chromed my wheels for free in return.

I would take more pictures of the damage and hint about talking to the lawyers. That's just preposterous that they wouldn't let the owner see the damage to HIS car.

There is no justification for not allowing the owner to see the car he should have demanded that he see it or he would phone the cops as once the owner withdraws permission for them to use the car they are basically stealing it no different to a common thief.

Tell the service guy that the 10 days bit is OK i know from experience that by the time stuff gets painted and what not that is a fair amount of time to ask for but say that anything over that is unacceptable and if they argue a quick call to MB Milton Keynes will soon take care of the problem.

I would speak to the bodykit company yourself also explain the situation if they say it will take 5 days to ship then at least you have an idea of whats going on.

There is no need to be greedy i agree with you but still get them to throw in a free service or something surely they should do that as the cost to them is minimal but you still get the satisfaction of getting something from them.

I remember once a new tech working for us kerbed a BMW M5 the old style one hardly a mark on the wheel but guilt kicked in and he got a new alloy and 2 new tyres and a full wheel alignment and the service the car was in for got done free and he was just going to touch it up but for us it was the right thing to do if you damage another persons property then you should restore it to a condition that either equals or improves on the condition it arrived in.

Just noticed etyu's post and like the lawyer idea that should help speed things up a quick call to MBUK should help also

DansSlk, Obviously you are a very ethical person. Too bad there aren't more people like you. The damage looks like they may have hit a parking bumper or perhaps hooked the front on one and backed up.

Its just the right thing to do you know i mean people take pride in the cars they own and its just not right for you to disrespect it since they are trusting you with the thing.

I would put money on your damage assessment mate if it had been a car or something tall the plate would be damaged also so it must have been something low like you said and unless this was done at the dealer after the test drive or something then it raises the question what where they stopping for?

I think me and etyu where posting at the same time so i just want to say i agree with that statement you just posted 100% etyu mate

At least the service manager at Jim Slemons MB (now Fletcher Jones of Newport Beach, California) had the courtesy and took me immediately to the service area and showed me the damage. This type of behavior is unspeakable. I understand mistakes and errors can happen, at the very least, own up to it, apologize, and try to make amends.

update:

SLK: seat can be fixed- plus dealer is seeing into if they can enable rains sensor and tyre pressure monitor.

CLS: MB's own Bodyshop called to ask where to get bodykit from, then later called to say that the people in service would have it repaired not replaced. from the damage in the pic - do u guys think its repairable?
now ive been trying to talk to the service manager since 10.30 (its now 13.15) but he's 'busy'.

ps. i asked their own bodyshop man if he would repair and not replace if a car came in with that damage. he said definitely replace not repair. - but was not his call

Good news about the seat and the sensors mate.

About the CLS no that cannot be repaired to a satisfactory standard the damage is simply too much and it wont look right it will need to be replaced its as simple as that they must replace it to restore it to its former glory.

OK phone up MBUK inform them of the situation say both you and your friend where going to be staying with the brand but this recent occurrence has caused you both to reconsider the matter and you will migrate unless the situation is fixed that should help you out as MB now realise that they cant hide behind the brand forever because people with just vote with the wallets and move companies.

If you don't get what you want from MB send the dealer a solicitors letter threatening legal action unless the car is returned to the state it arrived in or the car gets released to you and you will see to the repair and they will foot the bill.

I just can not believe the attitude of these people they want to be shot as i am basically an MB employee i would just like to apologise about this and say that we are not all stuck up pricks like this SA appears to be.
