Interesting description of the "direct Steering" the same one that was criticised by the Italians in a video posted in another thread in this forum.
temped to include it in the specifications of my SLK 300...but not sure.. what do you guys reckon? is it worth it on a 280 (300)?

Get it as the SLK280 we had didnt seem to have that feature in which the steering wheel took more effort to turn than my SLK55 especially with one hand.

Sorry I beg your pardon, do you mean that you are in between the traditional phone kit or the bluetooth ?

If so, then Bluetooth all the way.

They mention Gull Wing Red, is that different than Berry Red? It looks the same to me.

Hi there! thanks for helping me. What I meant is that despite the bluetooth option being standard on the 2009 SLK, MB still offers phone pre-wiring. I don't understand why one would need pre-wiring at all when most phones have an inbuilt bluetooth these days. Am I missing something?

thanks

The phone kit lets you use the car's antenna as well as recharge your phone while it's plugged in. Bluetooth uses the phone battery and the small phone antenna.

SO IMO isn't worth it. Both our current cars have bluetooth but no cradle, and we rarely have any problems with reception. Modern phones usually hold their charge sufficiently to not need to charge when on the move as well.
The other thing, of course, if that if more than one person drives the car regularly and you've got different phones, you'd need two cradles, and to change them all the time. And if you change your phone during the life of the car, the same thing applies.

We've just ordered an SLK and will make do with the standard bluetooth, and enjoy the extra storage space!

From what I have seen while sitting in one (facelift model in the showroom) with the new Audio 20 it seems that the HU can pair with any BT enabled phone.

Portzy.

PS Just to get your spirits up and whet your appetite. The showroom model was a 280 (300?) in non metalic black with black leather & the sports pack

Some might go for the traditional way of connecting a phone, such as those who arent that much into technological things ie Late adapters.

Gullwing red is a brighter red than berry, it has a different color code. Have not seen it in person, though. When my new 09 SLK 350 is delivered I'll post some pics as I ordered gullwing red interior.

Hello to you too!

Yes, MB Bradford have a facelift one their showrooms right this minute, its been there pretty much all week.

Its a 280; Obsi? Black; leather; heated seats; Airscarf; Sports Pack etc and looks really good. I'm contemplating a change and dont know which way to jump, 280 with lots of toys or 350 with just the essentials, got a stonking offer on my present 280 though so I am now weighing up the pro's and con's.

Cheers.

May I suggest 350 with the toys/options and AMG sports pack, unless you want the SLK 55. (Of course, this is presuming the cost for insurance, taxes, registration and purchase has been considered).

If they're now appearing in UK showrooms, how come there's still no mention of the facelift on the MB UK website!

Hopefully our's arrives in a month - we've ordered gullwing as well...

"Official" launch is for something like the 17th April so I suppose that could be why but, I'm thinking that my local dealer was able to get one in to encourage some pre-launch interest.

The web-site owners manual though is centred around the facelift, have a look, this change took place last week.

PS Prices are up a shade across the board btw.

Do you have an URL for the owner's manual?
