Default Caspian vs. Capri Blue

Hello Everyone!

I've been trying to find some real photos of the Capri blue versus the Caspian blue. It's hard to tell on ebay/other sites -- and even the cars that say they're Capri Blue look very dark like Caspian, while other Capri Blue photos look very much like the LeMans Blue of my BMW M5. I found one photo of Capri Blue that even looked purple/blue.

So where can I solve this?

Also, what do people think of the dark green on an SLK?

thanks.

Out of the two I preffer the Caspian blue for comparisons go to mbslk.de and check under R171 gallery for many of the blue hues.

I have quite a few pics of my Caspian Blue at http://www.benzworld.org/gallery/sho....php/cat/14026

The thing with Caspian Blue is it's one of those colour shifting hues - it bright sunlight it can be very much like Capri Blue, while on a cloudy day, or at night, it presents a much different, more greenish tone.

FishtailinZ is right about Caspian Blue it looks quite different in the sun than it looks in the shade or at night. Personally, I really like the pictures that I've seen of the SLK in green.

Looks like Caspian Blue is the blue I'm looking for. Thanks.

I'm just trying to decide if I want another rich blue color car (to match the M5 LeMans Blue), or a different color like Firemist Red or Green. Hmmm. decisions, decisions.

hi there,

i prefer the caspian blue over any green hues, the designo graphitgrün metallic 041 being perhaps the only exception, which however, despite the name, is a full grey color showing some greenish tones under certain lighting and angles.

of the latest green range the prehnite 430 looks cute, but still not for me, and the dark periclase 300 looks closer to the standard british racing green, which i think shows best on british preferably small cars like mgs and mini coopers - no offence to any green slk drivers out there, i honestly believe the slk is gorgeous in any color.

good luck in choosing...
best

I was in the same boat as you, confused between what was Capri and Caspian when I was first looking to order the car. Capri Blue is somewhat darker and has a purple hue under some light. Caspian Blue looks like midnight blue under direct sun, black in the shade/low light, purplish in some lights and greenish in other lights. It also has an amazing metallic sparkle under some light.

Here are some shots of my Caspian Blue:

Sun:

Garage at dealer:

Parking lot at night:

Different parking lot (yellowish light):

As you can see, it's different all the time!

That's a great group of photos to demonstrate the color shifting qualities of Caspian Blue. It's my favorite MB color but then again, I'm a bit biased.

Just one thing you should remember that if you're planning on getting an '09, capri blue has been discontinued. However, you can still get it via special order/designo for a charge. Good luck with your choice!

Same reason why Orion Blue was discontinued, I've been on the slk forums for a long time and only recall two member's posting pics of their capri blue SLK. Caspian Blue is a better option IMO.

I don't have any swirl marks on 2yr old car. Of course, cleaning method may account for some of that. I just use Zaino products.

So Caspian Blue is called in German "Benitotblau", see here:

I guess the Capri Blue is called "Mysticblau", see here:

I think otherwise searching might get annoying.

Mine is a Caspian Blue and can be found in the garage on page 2. No swirl marks after two years and three months.
After those great photos from you US/ Canadian guys I don't have the heart to post them directly.

Hmmm... according to this, Capri Blue looks much more "blue" and bolder -- very similar to the Caspian blue car posted by MDLSLK55 above. I'm pretty sure I saw a Caspian Blue sedan at the MB dealership, and it was a very dark, almost black, blue. Now I'm confused again.

Right, it's confusing and they are very similar. I have seen both in reality, mine and Capri Blue. Caspian has a little bit more green and Capri a little bit more blue. But both vary with the sun light and with the angle you look at the car.
I don't know the pricing policy of Mercedes in other countries, at least here in Germany the so called Designo-Mystic series is about 2,500 € more expensive than other colours. Capri Blue is a Designo-Mystic colour.
