Default 2005 SLK350 questions

Hello Everyone! First time poster here.

I've been looking into SLKs for a while now.

A friend is selling one with the following specs:

2005 SLK350
6-speed
about 22,000 miles and a few months left on the factory warranty
17” Staggered Wheels
AMG Sport Suspension
Automatic Climate Control
Clear Paint Guard
Homelink
Fog lights
No Nav
Single CD
Silver/black
Heated seats and AIRSCARF
Excellent condition - not a scratch or belmish (but needs tires)
power seats and steering wheel

I test drove it recently, and it's a fun little car.

He said he'll give it to me for about $32k. Good deal?

Where can I find out the full option package listing it came with and I might have not listed above?

Since it doesn't have COMMAND, what's the next best way for iPod integration?

Also, is there a way to install the remote roof control?

thanks.

p.s. my other car is a 2002 BMW M5 (for more practical and winter use)
p.p.s I'm selling my Delorean to fund the SLK (really)

-Hank

I think the price you are getting is quiet good for a low mileage SLK, go for it.

For comparison, I just paid $32,900 for a Certified 2005 350, so it has the rest of this year, plus one year CPO warranty.

33,000 miles, Automatic, AMG Sport Package, PIII Package (w/DVD Nav), lighting package, Premium Package, Comfort Package, Heating Package, Sirius, Phone cradle (for future bluetooth), ipod connector, Runflat tire package.

The tires are new, but the wheels are scratched. The dealer agreeed to refinish the wheels for us though. I might replace the runflats with normal tires anyways.

I put about 1/2 down and got the rest financed at 2.9%.

I found a list of the packages for 2005 here:

I looked up your specs in Galves (what most dealers in the NE use to price trade ins) and it shows $27,800 trade in value, and $29,400 market ready value.

It's -$900 for the lack auto transmission, but +$100 for the slightly lower miles (25,000 miles expected), and +$900 for the AMG Sport Package.

Nav would add $900 to the value.

Thanks for that info... very interesting.. but I'm pretty sure he won't go much lower than $32k.

Anyway, are these the AMG Sport package wheels?

And is this the AMG Sport Package front end?

thanks.

Hello.

The wheels are definately not AMG they were simply an option either for and before delivery or, they could have been purchased and fitted since.

Not sure about the front being AMG either, usually the AMG body parts come as a full kit but there are no side skirts.

Just had another look. I cant see the boot spoiler either so, I would say it does not have the AMG body styling option.

HTH.

Cheers.

Portzy.

Welcome to the forum. The car in your pictures has the standard wheels and it does not have the AMG sport package. It may have the sport suspension. My 2005 is identical.

The sport suspension was a $200 option in 2005.

You can install the remote roof module.

It does seem to be on the expensive side for a 2005 in need of new tires.

I agree it might be a touch expensive. You can find slightly better deals. One advantage you have is you know the owner and thus the history of the car. It also has a 6 speed, which is not a real easy option to find. I would shop around, get some idea of what is available and also see if the price can be lowered to offset the price of new tires. It does not have the AMG wheels or sport package. Good luck!!

Exterior color, six speed, heated seats and AirScarf, comfort package are pluses. Mileage is well within reason. Could have a few more options to justify the $32,000. Twenty nine five would be a better price for this car with the options you've listed. If you choose this car, consider upgrading to 18" wheels and tires. Make an offer but there are plenty of other SLKs available if you're willing to look other than local. Good luck in your negotiations and search.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I've decided to pass on this car... Silver is not my first choice, and I really want NAV. I don't need the sport package -- I'd even settle for the SLK280... heck, I've got the M5 to go fast, I want the SLK to have all the toys.

So I'll keep looking for now.

Good move, the price is a bit on the high side and who knows you might find a lower mileage manual gearbox with AMG sports exterior package. Good luck with the search.

Good logic.....I was in a similar situation but in my case the deal was too good to pass up...but like you I really wanted all the toys....almost there now except nav.....still, no regrets I have enjoyed the Modding process,,,,Good luck in your search, patience is the key

Henryhank, If the car doesn't really ring your bell, you are better off taking a pass. There are many other SLK's available. Take your time. Also, please add your location to your profile. It will effect the advice that you get.

Default Repainting wheels

The chance of you being satisfied with the repaint job on the wheels is relatively low. I don't believe the wheel color is available like the body colors to the MB dealers. I had two of the wheels on my SLK350 repainted and the dealer used brilliant silver the first time around. For the redo they brought in an expert from the paint supplier and I ended up with a decent but not perfect match.

If you get the wheels repainted, you should at least do all four. Better choice would be to replace them with take-offs from someone who has upgraded the wheels.

I purchased a set with new tires from a seller on this forum for $1300. I use the original wheels with A/S tires during the colder weather.

NAV on mercedes shouldn't really be a deciding factor. They are way behind when compared to the japanese automakers. I wish Mercedes would just stick a garmin unit into their console, or at least use a better NAV than what they have.

Good choice on passing on the car, it is not that good of a deal.
