| We currently have a reverse camera on our Audi TT that displays on a pop out LCD, which makes it much easier for me to parallel park (in NYC especially). Our Infiniti has a camera that displays on the Nav screen. When you get use to something you don't want to take a step back. It looks like it would be impossible or very expensive to get video on the Comand HU for US SLKs, so I have been looking for alternatives. One idea was to mount a small LCD on the drivers sun visor and flip it down when reversing. After some googling this morning, I came across a rear view mirror with a built in LCD and parking sensors (~$300 for the whole kit). I believe we would lose the auto-dimming functionality though. There appears to be lot of mirror / lcd options, but I think this one looks the most like the OEM mirror. The size might be a problem though since it looks to be standard size and that might not fit the SLK. Product Page: http://www.globalame.com/auto_vision_guard.htm Demo movie: http://www.globalame.com/flash/movie.html Product Manual: http://www.globalame.com/UserManual.pdf Some High Res pictures: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/pictures.php?id=7719 They have a version with only the mirror sans camera and parking sensors, which is what I was thinking of doing. I don't like the idea of drilling into the bumpers or how they suggest to mount the camera. I think the stand alone mirror in combination with a Boyo license plate mounted camera would be the way I would go. Any ideas if this would work? ---update--- After a bit more googling, I found a Gentex mirror with a 2.4" LCD display and Auto-dimming function. I believe Gentex is the largest manufacturer of auto-dimming mirrors. They are using it in the latest Toyota Camrys. I've seen it cheaper than this though: http://www.mitocorp.com/flash/gentex...lay-mirror.htm Last edited by Tummy; 03-12-2008 at 12:11 PM. |

| I'd speak to Lenny (noregret4life) because he fitted a reversing cam to his SLK and uses a screen that pops out from the cubby above the COMAND. Also if you search the site you should be able to find it.

| yeah, lenny's setup is pretty sweet. I was playing around with the idea of a reversing camera hooked up to my aftermarket radio headunit initially when installing, and it didn't look that hard to do. Those BOYO license-plate cameras was what I was looking at as well. Didn't eventually end up doing it though, but still might be a future project. |
