Default Bluetooth and iPod

I am still waiting for a confirmation from my dealer re Bluetooth. Has anyone with Bluetooth installed in their SLK tried to use an iPod equipped with a Bluetooth attachment? If so, do the titles appear in the display while they play? I was considering having the iPod wiring installed but if Bluetooth can do the job...

I did not hear the Bluetooth could do the iPod, only the phone. The iPod wired interface is cool because it also charges the iPod while it's in the car. I leave mine in there for days.

U2 iPod - black and red to match the car...

At this point a Bluetooth iPod is just a rumour but there is a third-party Bluetooth attachment available for the iPod. It makes it possible to use a wireless headset or to listen to the iPod through the sound system of a car (or a house). Of course, it doesn't allow the recharging of the iPod but since mine has a 5 to 6-hour autonomy, it doesn't worry me.

The bluetooth system in the R171 is a module you add to your prewired for phone SLK. Therefore it is connected to a completely seperate system on the Command. Even if the Ipod was capable of connecting via bluetooth, i don't think it will be able to connect in the SLK as it is strictly phone (limited to even certain models from what i heard)

You could however use your Aux input in the glovebox if you have Command. I have seen an adapter for sale... Turns an audio output into bluetooth, then the receiver module connects to the headphone jack. If you were to connect the transmitter to your ipod, and throw the receiver in your glovebox, you could connect it wirelessly. However there would be no controls on steering wheel or Command.

If you go with the Ipod kit, you can get the titles on Command and controls. but thats the only way i know of connecting it into the Command system.

Zut, do you use MP3 DVDs in your Command. You can really pack in a lot of music that way. With a dual layer DVD 8+gigs thats 2 ipod minis

I am still on a regular 4gig dvd and burned a couple, and all controls work through command. Lack of playlists, bookmarking, and Command freezing sometimes are a downer, but hey... its still great to have the feature.

I tried an MP3 DVD and it did not work. It suppose it was not properly encoded. I also tried an MP3 CD but the navigation through the various titles was difficult. Each MP3 was in a file with other MP3s of the same artist. Also, only some of the titles appeared (the first 20, I think). I am not giving up hope. I shall try again with other discs.

What the manual meant are dual CD's (two CD's glued together and is therefore thicker and can get stuck) as opposed to dual-layer CD's.

Page 219 of the 2006 Owner's Manual states: " You can therefore only use CDs with a maximum thickness of 1.3 mm. If you insert thicker data carriers, e.g., the ones that have data on both sides (one side with DVD data, the other side with audio data), they cannot be ejected and will damage the drive." This is what I mean by dual CDs as opposed to dual-layer CDs which has the same thickness as the regular CDs.

Manual also states "to play CDs which correspond to the EN 60908 standard."

Wow! I did not know there were such discs. I remember in the early 80's when CDs were introduced, my CD-reader had problems with RCA CDs because they were slightly thicker than other discs for some reason.

I have a Dynamtie album in mine from JK. It is CD on one side and DVD on the other. No problems as yet. Although I haven't tried to eject it. Only joking I've had it out a few times.

Vin, look again, I don't believe that is what your manual says. What is verbotten is a thicker than standard CD or DVD. Sometimes called dual-sided.

DVD's have been dual layer from the beginning. What is new is blank DVD R or DVD-RW that have dual layer (and recording drives that support it).

Net: If your drive supports DVDs, then it support dual layer DVDs by definition.
