Default problem after problem

K... So 3rd of check engine light came on... wowing...

so here are the problems that i had so far...

cup holder wasn't functioning propertly. got it replaced.

center console lid was broken and won't close.
which they replaced it 2times already...

Check Engine light on for 3rd time.... said sensor failure. got it replaced... took them 2week

Replaced Driver side window side Rubber molding..Because of rain...
( let me tell you this cost almost 200USD without warranty... ) and took them almost week

Trunk Lid side Plastic Pin was poped out and i still haven't fixed it. not that top isn't going down... but still it's a freaking 2007...

and my Top down lock button stop functining. i need to bring it to dealer and check that out too...

other than that so far so good. expect i need new rear tire...

OH one more thing...

horrible job on finish touch up... i meant freaking hood wasn't even closed all the way and i got the warn signal that my hood was open when i was pulling my car out from dealer...wowing...
and horse that sits on top of left intake...( i think it's coolant or something) i had to reorganize horse so that it sits propertly... this is question of technician and dealer quality...

this is first time i'm owning SLK so much problem within year.. i don't know what to expect next...
i should buy extend warranty soon...

what do you think dan?? is this normal for 2007?? do you recommand anything that i should do??
i know i drive it as daily car but i never had this kind of issue with other japanese brand...

any kind of respond will be appreciate it...

Thanks and Have Bless day Everyone !

If these things happened to me, I'd get rid of the car and buy something Japanese.

I'm reminded of Bill's problems here with bad workmanship, your car obviously has had issues but they should be fixed first try, 2 or more attempts on one problem is unacceptable.

If you intent to keep the car, get extended warranty, otherwise sell it. I have problems with everyone single one of the mercedes I own/owned, but mostly with electrical. I always thought it was problematic only with low/mid-range models, but a friend of mine has extremely bad electrical issues with his brand new S class, got stranded 3 times already and still no good fix in sight. Mechanical, fit and finish are usually good. But I did notice that my SLK passenger side window side Rubber molding is looking funny so it may pop out in a year or so.

I have an '07 bought in June and driven 12k miles since then. No problems other than a few check engine lights that I caused by not completely sealing the fuel cap. Other than that, no problems, and that wasn't even a problem with the car.

Some people have leaks in between the front and rear windows on the door, but that can be fixed by adjusting the window position either by you or the dealer. There are instructions on this forum somewhere.

HwoALanG, sorry to hear of your problems with your SLK. You've had more than your fair share. It's evident that most SLK owners here are happy with their vehicles. You list is full of annoying problems, but no major failures. MB service has contributed to your frustration. I hope you get these issues resolved and can start enjoying your SLK again.

His car had some issues none of them in themselves where particularly devastating and all easy fixed but an incompetent dealer thrown into the mix made a real mess of the car.

When he finally had enough and lemoned it they made his life real difficult and even banned him from owning another Merc for 10yrs.

I have an '05 350 and spent far too much
time during the 1st yr or 2 having flaws
corrected across the board (AC blower, stereo speaker replacement, headlmp washer repair, COMAND replacement, seat squeak removal, check engine lights too numerous to recall, things
I've forgotten, and ultimately, a new engine). For some stubborn reason, I kept
the car (with an extended warranty), continue to love it, and (knock on wood), have not been having problems in months
(probably nothing left to replace).

I agree, get extended warranty if you plan to keep it but I would trade it in for something different or similar, not all SLK's are bad, for the most part, we have more happy SLKer's then one's with problems. But once the problem starts it doesn't end.

How do they ban a person from getting a Merc, does his or her name be on a black list on MB or just the dealer ?

Thank you in advance, I am really curious to know about this.

If you buy a new or pre-owned car the importer (in Bill's case MBUSA) is always involved because record's have to be updated and so on, basically your name is blacklisted so as soon as they get involved the transaction is stopped.

You could always buy a car out of the network (As in private / non MB dealer sale) thats simple enough to do but to be fair if i where in his shoes you couldn't pay me to buy another.

Default What about buying one in your spouse's name

It seems that you could title one in your spouse's name if you really wanted an MB that badly. You may not be able to own one, but, I don't see why you couldn't drive an MB owned by someone else.

You could probably lease one thru an independent lease company and stay under the radar screen that way too.

I'm sure they would figure it out based on Surname and address (unless you moved), you could use your spouse's maiden name and a parents address or just go out of the MB system to buy one.

BUT who the hell want's to own a Merc that badly?

I'm definitely not a Merc fanboy. In fact, I dislike their ridiculous focus on more and more horsepower and their neglect of balance, handling and the manual transmission. Also, I would appreciate if they did something about CO2 emissions of the fleet that would finally make the numbers go down rather than up.

But still, for someone who wants a zippy roadster with maximum creature comfort, there just aren't any alternatives to the SLK, so yes, I'd still want it that badly.

Both of you

Seriously? You'd both be happy to get treated like Bill was and then go ahead and have to sneak another car out of them.

At the end of the day thats your choice gentlemen but i can't help but feel that put in the same situation you would both feel different.

Don't get me wrong i love Merc's always have but no way would i take abuse like that and then crawl back.

I really see no alternatives on the market, simply because all other convertibles would force me to have the roof up much more often than I'd want, so I'd probably try to figure out a way to sneak around the agreement. I don't think they would have any grounds for not allowing my wife to own one (wouldn't that be some sort of kin liability?). Anyway, it's hard to put yourself in someone else's shoes, and you're probably right that I wouldn't bother in the end. A 335i convertible wouldn't be too shabby, I guess. At least with BMW you can still get a manual transmission with a +300HP convertible. Problem is, you'll go to limp mode with a defective fuel pump every few thousand miles.
