Default Edition 10

Got a new slk 280 edition 10. I was looking around online prior to purchase for pictures of the edition 10, but couldn't find anything besides pictures from a press release that wasn't for the US audience.

Pictures were taken close to sun down, so everything's a bit orangish...

Options included in the edition 10 package are:
7 speed automatic, some 17" 10 spoke "chrome shadow" rims (which are identical to the stock slk 350's rims.. but shadow colored), darkened tail lamps, some random badges around the car, red stitching all over, paddle shifters, 6 cd changer, p1, and heating package. See pictures for some of the details.

I'll take some better pictures once it stops raining here in LA and return to the normal smog covered sunshine-ness.

Congratulations on the new car, I love the edition 10 as it features a special paint called matte silver if memory serves me right.

Enjoy it in the best of health and welcome to the forum!

those "chrome shadow" wheels are the ones that are sorta gunmetal coloured right? I remember seeing them for the first time a few months ago and I was like, woah! those wheels are hot!

I have this car, and I regret it because of not having the xenon lighting pakcage upgrade. I feel that the stock lights don't have a high enough beam on regular (not high beam). This is very frustrating for a car with a sticker price of over 50,000.00. Does anyone else feel this way?

Default edition 10

i also just purchased a new edition 10 slk 280
it's a truly beautiful car (and ALOT sportier than my previous R350).
i was wondering if there were any sales figures floating around out there
for the edition 10?

I agree. I always do a slow burn every time I see a Toyota Prius with factory xenons. I'm sure they're an option, but I see a bunch on the road with the HID lights. My SLK 55 has the xenons and I wouldn't have purchased without them. My wife's SLK 350 doesn't. I've been on the lookout for a good set of factory xenons assemblies for the past two years. Most used assemblies sold have broken tabs. Going through the dealer will cost almost $2000 for a set new. There's a eBay seller from Germany selling brand new factory Bi-Xenon assemblies for $1816 for the pair with shipping. He does offer "Best Offer" option, I'd be interested what his bottom line would be. The same assemblies last year were are $1295 plus shipping. I've since reconsidered my desire versus cost to install the factory xenons on my wife's SLK. I'll continue to look for a reasonable set, but my wife could care less. I agree, the factory xenons should be standard equipment on the SLKs. Here the link for the German seller.

In October 2004, I turned down an opportunity to take immediate delivery of a "Launch Edition" SLK 350 because they didn't come with bi-xenons. I waited the additional 2 months to take delivery of the SLK that I had on order with bi-xenons. I'm glad I waited.

Dealers seem to rarely order SLKs with bi-xenons. Thats one of the reasons why I ordered my two SLKs. It also ticks me off that you get no credit for them from sites like Kelly Bluebook on trade in.

My dealer orders most SLK's for stock with the bi-xenons.

No offense to the SLK280 owners, but I don't like that car at all. Mercedes has been moving forward with the SL line (e.g., the SL63) but they are moving backwards with the SLK. Moving from the 350 to the 280 is too much of a performance hit in the name of making the car more "affordable". We will never see an SLK63 - so the SLK55 is as good as it is going to get in our form factor. That's too bad. I would buy an SLK63 on the spot if it came out. But obviously, the market for the SLK is moving towards the 280. And why not, it looks the same as a 350 but costs less. MB too often "dilutes the gene pool" of their popular cars to make a few extra dimes.

Of course, that is just my opinion.

Huh? The 280 line was added to the line. The 350 wasn't replaced. And it was the Edition 10 which I think had some sportier "looks". And the 280 has been upgrade to a 300 in MY 09. The SLK line has even more versions outside the States.

I think having choices is a good thing.

So I agree that the SLK has lots of models - heck we pick up I think 2 here in the UK - my only real gripe is that MB removes features from the SLK to make more of a difference when moving to the SL.

B55: While i do agree with your points... here only the 200, 350 and 55 is offered and in my opinion the new 200 is hardly "cheap". Price wise for the price of a 200 i could get a very good used BMW 335i coupe which is a newer model with a bunch more features so really in the end i think its about taste.

By no means does somebody buying a 200 mean its more affordable or the fact they can't afford a 350. I could buy a '07 350 if i wanted but as far as technology goes on the facelift i'm actually considering an '09 200 purely because it suits my needs and sure the power is greater on the V6 and V8 models but i think it comes down to personal preferance too, not just price.
