Default "4" months & counting until SLK55 purchase!!!

Hello SLKworld!

I am new to this site and really have enjoyed reading the comments that people have been making concerning the purchase of their SLK, accessories, performance parts, and the list goes on.

I am in the market for a new car. Currently, I have a 2005 BMW 325ci and love it, but I no longer want it because I have always wanted an SLK - it's really a funny story how I ended up getting a BMW. I figure now is the perfect time to get one because my lease runs out on my car and this time I want buy something. I am looking at a 2005-2006 SLK55 AMG because they are coming in around $45,000.00; it seems like a great buy to me.

So, I am now in the process of counting down and finalizing what I want. I am really excited because not to many SLK55 AMG's or SLK for that matter are driving around in my city. Again, thank you for all of the useful information and I hope to soon be able to talk about my new car and post pictures of modifications that I have made.

Enjoy the New Year!

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com. Congratulations on choosing a used SLK 55. I was waiting for the release of the 2008s and found my used 2005 SLK 55 on eBay. Many great deals on used, all years, all model SLKs. Take your time, look for a SLK with ALL options, low mileage, great condition, and well maintained. Do your homework and don't settle on the first SLK you see. I see you're from Greensboro, NC. I lived there from August 1977 until April 1986. It's my favorite place I've ever lived. Good luck with locating the right SLK. Take an opportunity to read up on current and old post to gain as much insight on all aspects SLK.

Welcome, good luck and good choice on a used slk55. You're right. That is a great value. I would recommend a used 2007 model due to some improvements (paddle shifters on steering wheel mainly). Otherwise, 2006 and 2005 is great too. If I were to do it all over again, that's the route I'd take.

-1- made some great suggestions. Follow his advice. He speaks from personal experience.

Welcome darkphoenix! Smart move on your decision to purchase a previously owned SLK55. I would follow -1-'s advice.

Thanks everyone for you words of encouragment and knowledge- I'm still excited! What I am trying to find is a Silver 55 w/red and black leather interior or a White 55 w/red and black leather interior. "May" can't get here fast enough.

Try to get the white/red interior, it's very rare and is one of the best combo's. Black/red is nice but as shown in the poll, blacks is a very popular color so it's common. Pre-owned SLK55's are a bargain, don't settle for any, make sure you get the one you want. You will love the SLK, since there isn't many of them, the people there will think you are driving a super exotic. . The common person can't tell the difference between the SLK and the SLR. Good luck.

I'm seriously considering ordering an '09 SLK 350 in white with the new 'gullwing' red interior to replace my '06 280 in 3 -4 months.

The upgraded 350 engine is very nice, and with an updated COMAND with NAV, and other options, you will be satisfied; just make sure you have the AMG body kit and not the "cleft lip" front. If I was in the market for the SLK today, this is what I would get.

Here's a 2006 White with Black/Red Interior, fully loaded, 13K miles listed at $55K out in CA:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=&cardist=2392

Comparably, seems a little on the higher side with the other listings, but you can always work on that.

Nice color combination and well-optioned.
Surprised they have all new tires at 13K but whatever. Work em and get a better price.

I saw that one on Auto Trader for $55,000.00, but I agree it seemed a little too high compared to the other ones. I was working out the details w/my insurance company today figuring out how much I would be paying on the car.

However, I do have a question...

I see that you can change out the steering wheel to get the one w/the paddle shifters, but can you change to leather in the doors to a different color along w/the seats. For example, if I found a white car w/black interior. Could I change that up by reordering new seats and changing the leather on the doors? Let's say to the red & black???

Thanks.

You can change the seats and door panels but it might be less expensive to have a good auto upholstery shop re-upholster the seats and doors. You could even get a truly custom job and your car would be unique.

Find the right car before purchasing. Changing seats (new or used) would be expensive. No shortage of used SLKs available. Keep looking. Here's an incredible deal ($39,995) on a fully optioned 2006 SLK 55, with 43,500 mileage. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...spagenameZWDVW
