| Is it possible to speed up the gear change in the M mode for our SLK? I took the car for a long drive tonight through the south side of the Hong Kong Island, going through Stanley, Shak O to Repulse Bay, which most of the turns use 2nd and 3rd gear. I tried between the S and the M mode and found I must use the M mode for better control as the S mode will shift up a gear when the car is going through a down hill turn .However, I have found the M mode is a little slow reacting to the shift button. I understand it is a full automatic gearbox we have here and there is no way to be as quick as a DSG or SMG box, but is there a way to speed up the reaction a little? Also, a little side note that a big

| The reason S is not shifting very well is the car has not had time to adapt yet, you don't have many miles on your car right? Unfortunately its a software issue with M modes and the shift requests not getting priority so we are kinda stuck with that I'm afraid. The more you drive the car the better S should behave it will eventually learn when not to shift.

| Dan: You are right, the car only has less than 1,000km on the clock, I hope it will adapt to my liking soon. As for the M mode, I thought companies like Kleemann, Barbus and the like would have software to speed up the gear changes... may be I am wrong. cyberdarkon: Unfortunately, the BS has only one M mode.

| Your car already has AMG SpeedShift and i'm sure it should have M1 and 2 but then that could be an approval issue and/or a build date issue. What you want is the transmission control unit and electronic shifter unit software upgraded to "Ultimate Experience Asia" spec.

| Dan, how do I do that?? Do I just ask the service centre to do it? Also, what is the difference between "Ultimate Experience Asia" and "Black Series" spec?

The Asia car has everything maxed for the track so the box will shift as fast as is possible whereas the Black has been watered down slightly to make it cope with public roads.

| Ummm... let me email AMG and MB Hong Kong to see what they can do!! But I doubt they are willing to make the changes for me. Unless I have a good reason for them, right?

| Dear Mr. , Thank you for your kind e-mail, we are pleased to hear that you enjoy your car. Please be informed as follows: The Asia Cup vehicles have still been equiped with the 5 speed transmission which had in fact a shift mode with a bit quicker shift time. The SLK55 BS is equiped with the 7-speed transmission, unfortunately there is no different software available what means we can not improve the shift time. We hope we have been of service to you with this information and stay at your disposal for any further questions . Kind regards Volker Nieweg Verkauf / Sales Mercedes-AMG GmbH W601-MS/PS Daimlerstrasse 1 71563 Affalterbach/Germany

| ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's a shame that there's not an improved M mode. I'm surprised they still used the 5 speed with the Asia Cup car. I wonder why they decided on that vs the 7 speed.

| 5 speed probably for the strength of the gearbox its self and the amount of torque it could handle ?

| I suppose worst case is you change you gearbox out, the Asia car is not road legal so if you brought one you would be limited to private roads or tracks. The 5 speed box is stronger than the 7 speed unit and it can take more punishment, thats probably why its used. Wish i could be more exact about it but i don't have much of anything to do with the Asia car.

| Money aside, it will be a big job to change to the Asia Cup transmission, specially the software to adapt to the Black Series ECU.

| Well it should mount up OK but we are talking about a transmission here so yes i would call it a big job, all the little parts that go along with it would need to be installed and wiring would have to be modified. Software will actually be easiest.

| But then it wouldn't be a Black mate it would be the AC and that is not road legal. For the 0.whatever it would gain is it really worth any hassle i know its a PITA but if you focus on training S mode instead you can get around it. Its just a case of driving more until you get |
