| Has anyone noticed the cool "effect" the rear (red) lights give off at night? I can't put my finger on it but the Mercedes SL has the same thing. No other car that I've seen on the road looks the same. This is the only way i can think of describing it, if you have ever passed under the flight path of an airport and noticed the "flickering" effect of the road reflectors (you know white for the centreline, red and green at each side). Anyway what do you think? |

| I agree, When I first picked up my friend gave me a lift. It was night time. As the dealer flicked on the lights my friend just said "Wow" Like this. ![]() ![]() P.s. I had the most awkward moment yesterday.. Someguy jumped out of a truck and was Wow wow wow.. I want that karl.. what do you do.. wow ... I looked at the fuel counter and was happy to see I still had 10 gallons to go.

Yes, indeed! I think LED lights is the future. More and more car industries use them in their sport models, however i think in some years it will be standard. | |

| It is not just the tail ligths IMHO. I think the tail pipes and the boot lid have something to do with it. In fact, everything looks good on the SLK. This car looks great from any angle. At first, I thought the front grille with the big star was the best feature aesthetically speaking but after a while, I came to prefer the rear view, especially when the hood is up. It looks rich and classy while sporty and aggressive (especially the 55). |

| Gregory, I've been hearing that L.E.D technology has recently been introduced to Computer Screens and shortly in Televesion sets.

| Quite right Mohammed. LED's instead of flourescent tubes for flat panel screens. The engineers believe it's brighter, LEDs lasts longer and uses less juice.

| I think on my next SLK tail lights, i am going to install LCD screens instead of LED bulbs.... This way i can tell the idiots tailgating me to back the F OFF i love my SLK ![]() But my tinted tail lights have a totally different pattern since they were sprayed to black. It kind of looks close to an S-Class now because the middle stripes are dark. |

| Funny, I thought they were leds. At a closer look, they are designed to mimick leds. You can see what I mean. You need to get close and look up into the light assembly to see it. Good design.

| Owners manual says the same: The rear sidemarkers (small red lamp above the longer horizontal assembly) and the tail/parking/standing/brake lamp are LEDs.

| Okay, well I guess they are LEDs. They looked like it but I thought maybe not based on this thread. I must have misunderstood some posts.

| Also, the newest thing is LED headlights to replace Xenon. No more huge transformer and glass bulbs! Look at the European spec Audi R8s (US cars don't get it, they don't pass US regulations....not because we are more strict, but because we use dated standards). |

| I think the LED revolution is a good thing as far i can tell it was no downsides. Almost instant startup, practically no heat generation, huge lifespan, cheap replacement, high output and next to no power draw.
