| Ok guys... need some help here and ideas. Here is the situation. Currently i have my black 18s wrapped with Pirelli PZero Nero tires. The stock wheels are 17s wrapped with Pirelli PZero Rosso tires. Now, the PZero Neros are on their last season (deep into Nov./Dec. is when i plan to take them off) The PZero Rossos are not so swell either. They have some miles left but i would say this is their last winter season. (I know they are not winter tires but they are ok in my area for the most part) Now, on both sets of wheels (17s & 18s) only the rear tires need to be replaced at this point. Do i replace the stock 17s with brutal All weather tires good for snow and winter, and in the spring replace the rear 18s to a new set of spring? Suggestions for the winter tires welcome PLEASE. And also for Spring/Summer tires. I loved the PZero Neros but they didn't last as long as i hoped |

| I would go with seperate tires for winter and summer, and not a multi-purpose tire as I think they just give up too much, especially on staggerd width cars. I wish I could help, but I'm in a tire bind too. Time to get new ones, only there is only one set available for the 16" 10 spokes with Run Flats, the same ones I got on it. Damn me liking those wheels! |

| How about Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S for the 17" rears, treadwear is 400 (compared to 280), might be an acceptable compromise for winter and light snow conditions. Link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ng=Y&minLoad=S

| Depends on what you want to be honest. For a summer tire, the RE01R by Bridgestone is hands down the best tire you can purchase. It is STRICTLY for dry conditions though and medium/light rain. The Eagle F1s are a great all around summer tire, great grip, comparable grip to the RE01R( say .91g vs .94g) but when it rains you'll still be able to enjoy the SLK with F1s, they are rated the best summer tire for wet grip. Like I said its all about how you drive, if your agressive, go with the the RE01R, if you occasionally drive fast, or just push your car on the street, go for the Eagle F1s. |

| Thanks for the input. The thing is... last year i didn't take off my 18s with Neros till Jan. When the weather started to get real crappy. I drive in pretty cold conditions with rain and all and had no issues. I guess the best thing at this point would be to ride out the Neros as long as i can into late fall before they become total garbage, and then ride out the 17s on Rossos till it starts to snow....IF IT EVEN SNOWS. and order something rough like the Blizzaks just on the rear. Come spring i guess it will be time to go something like the Eagle F1, Bridgestone, or perhaps those Pirelli M/S... Seems like a reasonable plan. |

| agreed. No need to go spend bunch of money on tires, especially winter tires since it seems like its not gunna snow much this year with this weather we have been having in the NE this time of year. |

| If you are going to do winters you really should do all 4. If you are thinking of doing just the rears for traction you are forgetting the steering and braking are all up front. (highest % of braking in front) The way I look at it, if the cost of the 4 winter tires keeps me from one little oops or fender bender they have more then paid for themselves. Blizzak just came out with a new winter tire MZ-03. I bought the REVO 1 version from Tire Rack for a great deal. Happy shopping. -Michael |

| Ive been to NR4l's. And I know his area. He really doesnt need the front because the roads are kept pretty decently, you just dont want your power on summer tires. I understand your point about the fronts and it makes total sense, but its not THAT big of a deal, he needs them more or less in case he wants to get up a hill or something. I have the same problem. |

| nmslk, you got a point there... and i do agree. But John made a good point as well. My area gets cleaned very quickly when and IF it even snows. So the rear is my main concern. However if i can get a good deal on 4 for the winter 17s set, it will be great. I guess i'll keep an eye on the prices till the Pirellis are bald. Speaking of which... i have a wonderful screw in my rear driver's side tire. Which i will be pulling out and sealing tomorrow... Joy! ... the irony just kills me! Also going to fix a chip in the windshield... Will post results for all who are interested. |

Re snow tires on just the rears - better read the fine print in your insurance policy too! Some companies won't cover accident claims if different "types" (ie summer/all season on the front, winters on the rear) of tires are on the car.

| I have had the Goodyear F1's in 19" on my car for several months now. I would definitely recommend them. They are very quiet and once they are warm, grip well. It's also nice to know they are real good in wet conditions. I don't drive my car in the rain, but I got caught in one of those summer thunderstorm downpours and the car was planted, despite massive amounts of water on the road. |

| Lenny mate if the roads get cleared quick in your area do you really need winters? I've never had any need to change from the OEM tire up until i modded the SLK so just kept using the standards since we get them cheap in the shop anyways. I don't intentionally drive in crappy weather but sometimes I've either had no choice or have been caught out and the weather here can be real nasty when it wants to be but its never overpowered the OEM's not just on the mucky b's but other makes also some of them seriously powerful cars. Since i got into this line of work I've always been of the view that if you need to change from what are really all-season's because thats what all OEM's really are otherwise they would never get the car's to meet safety standards then its not safe to be driving, i know whenever i am in bad weather the first thing that springs to my mind is the tracking not the rubber. Just try to avoid hard acceleration.

| Ok, so the windshield fix is total crap! At least the one i used with the injection bit. Followed all directions, nothing improved really. I think its the type of crack/chip i have. its mostly internal not external impact.... ![]() Dan, the thing is, my SLK did not come with OEM tires. I doubt MB puts Pirelli PZero Rossos on stock SLKs. So to be honest, i have no idea what OEM means for the SLK. haha, i guess that applies to tires and just about everything else on my car now ![]() Off Topic: i am going to be ordering a new LED setup for the license plate. From what i came up with so far, it will be a completely independent LED attachment... More info to come. |

| Could be different in the US mate but they do fit them OEM in the UK, i know you don't have standard size alloys but off the shelf PZero's to fit should be exactly the same MO is branding only for the SLK.

| Well i guess Mercedes Benz made a good choice for OEM tires with PZero Rossos... and i am going to be riding them out till my SLK is a sled. First will tbe the PZero Neros on my 18s, from which i removed a huge screw (i know how to fix small punctures now too) and now will last me deep into winter, followed by the Rossos till the spring, and then a new set of spring/summer tires will go on the 18s. Or perhaps new wheels & tires altogether. Thanks for the input guys |
