Talking Baby Got Back - Rear Skirt & Spoiler on SLK350......

Was working on a new avatar pic, not sure I'm going to go with this or something else. Anyway, it highlights the AMG rear spoiler and the "Rear Skirt" option I have on my car. Mercedes' web site doesn't really show the rear skirt part well.

If you are someone who is considering these additions, I can send you more, and larger pictures of them from different views. The rear skirt does a good job of mostly hiding the view of the underbody / mufflers. It seemed every picture I did of my 2005 SLK without it that the mufflers would just pop out and become prominent. That might have something to do with the Mars Red color emphasizing them more.

Yes, Trollup, that is a bear on the license plate.

got back indeed!

I like both lip and spoiler options.
Have been thinking about getting the lip spoiler myself.

How much is it from Benz? Because i have seen it online for about $280-$300

Well, Trollup usually has a bear or two riding around inside but a bear in the plate is cute. In keeping with his name, his tail has acutally got tail.

Friends have commented, and I find I must agree, that the raised tail is both reminiscent of car and owner.

I'd consider a bear or leather flag... but I've been content to let him go without for now.

The dealers around here wanted from $600 to $800 for the rear lip AMG spoiler. I bought it off a place on e-Bay for less then half, unpainted. They are actually in Ft. Lauderdale so I went up to check it out before I purchased it.

NOTE: Do not use the 3M tape that comes attached to the spoiler. They sent out an update that requires them to use an epoxy to attach it. Mine lifted off with the tape.

I guess asking if that is a "Sperm Whale" might be getting myself into trouble. ;-)

Good to see your alive, even after text messaging me while you were driving yesterday. Can you do that cresting hills in SF like scenes from Bullitt?

I purchased my spoiler directly from the same place in Florida.

The fit of the spoiler is ok and I have not had an issue with the tape mounting method. I didn't want to use the mastic because it is very hard to remove.

The big problem is with the paint quality. They had to repaint and send three different spoilers and never got the paint acceptable. The color was a decent match but the paint had so much junk in it that the finish could not be sanded and buffed out. Same thing every time.

They gave up trying and gave me credit for the paint cost. I then had it repainted a a local shop. Cost was 125.00 but they only gave me 75.00 back.

If I had to do it over I would have ordered one from the dealer, in the long run it would have been cheeper if I count all the time and problems I had dealing with the Florida company.

That is because they have it painted by a Hyundai dealer nearby.

HOWEVER, mine was painted as part of the purchase of my replacement 2006. They sent it to the Maroone Nissan and it had the same problem, but after 3 times they finally used the real MB paint and it is much, much better.

Make no mistake: If I would have paid $800 for one direct from dealer, they still would have painted it at Nissan first.

eh, no. I don't IM from the car unless conditions are relatively light. Any traffic results in Treo going to console.

And as for SF, I drive through town but rarely stop in it. Parking and the way locals treat said parked cars makes it a nasty place to own a nice vehicle.

I bought mine from the dealer for around $ 500.00 or so about a year and half ago. It fits perfectly, comes painted perfectly and looks great. Installed in ten minutes. No problems at all. I even bought my hood fins and wind deflector from MB. In the end, it costs more, but with what I paid for the car, I can't really see the logic of putting potential junk on it.

I agree,

I ordered the aftermarket fins but returned them and purchased the real thing from the dealer. The base gasket makes the whole thing look finished.

I did keep a set for my ML but they just don't look as good!

My dealer actually made me a good deal on MB fins. Now I am trying to get the same type deal on a 55 quad exhaust. We will see.

Thanks
