Default New Exhaust

I have decited to replace the oem exhaust with a quad system.

I would like to find a direct bolt on unit in liew of having to take it to a shop for welding.

The sound level needs to increase over the stock unit but not as loud as a Supersprint or Triflow.

I checked with the local dealer to see if the AMG unit would work but they were clueless. They told me the AMG unit that is specifically made for the 350 can not be ordered. Their answer was to purchase a system from the 55 and modify it. I am sure the AMG could be made to work but I really don't have the time to work out the issues.

What brand should I purchase?

Anybody that has already made the switch please let me know what type you used and how it worked.

Thanks for the info!

I'm waiting for Supersprint to come back to me on their release for the SLK55 AMG...

Was suppose to be last month but Italian delays

I was told £1100 list price , for the backboxes, link pipes and centre pipe, not the cat replacements. 2 Types were to be released, road and race

The ones from piecha look very good and without the need for a lot of modification. Thanks bakerdbl26.

I friend of mine has a Supersprint exhaust on his BMW M-Roadster. I really love the sound of that system. Always wanted an exhaust system with a growl... The stock 350 is not bad, however i wish the tone was a bit louder.

Let us know how you turn out. Perhaps sound samples would be great.

Also forgot to mention that you may want to consider the Eisenmann exhaust... many Benz owners have given it positive reviews

Thanks for the info.

I had Supersprint exhausts on three or four M BMW's, including the M roadster, and the sound level was perfect. I installed a Supersprint on the wife's SLK 170 and that one sounded like a Triflo, it was so loud I had to take it off and get a refund from BMP.

Does any one know anything about Piecha Design?

I received a quote from them and their price and delivery cost to the states is very good compaired to the others. The pic look good but I need to know about build quality, sound level and fitment.

You do have to modify the bumber opening which I expected to have to do anyway going to a quad system.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Has anyone out there is SLK 230 land ever found anyone on the web which can max out the SLK motor for power without it coming apart?

Who sells the super charger pully sets to spin it up faster?
Who sells a better intake sytem or airfilter
Who sells the super horsepower increase chip sets
Who sells a really good dual exhaust system to improve breating.
Who sells "what-ever" to make the SLK 230 (with an auto transmission) get off the line quicker (with no supercharger lag)

Also, I notice my four-banger buzzes around 45 mph, like the motor is bolted directly to the chasis without any vibration dampening. It is from the motor because when I shift it into neutral at 45 mph the buzz goes away (buzz meaning a highspeed buzz "feeling" not sound). It is not a wheel balance vibration it is more like a buzz caused from a motor which lacks counter balance shafts (therefore is unrefined). I find this a problem and would expect the motor to feel smother in the car regardless of speed. It did feel okay when new, but now have 86,000 miles +++ on it.

One last thing. Where can I go on the web to find people who have customized their SLK 230 inside and out. I'm looking for ideas and shops which can do that sort of thing. I have decided to keep my SLK 230 (yr 2,000) and simply improve its appearance and performance to a custom, one of a kind level. I think this car can be maintained for another decade easily and therefore is best fixed up, modified, improved and maintained rather than replaced with a new slk. Certainly the price will be considerably less to take this road.

I have the money and time to do this and would be happy to share with all concerned of my progress with photos as these imporvements are applied. It will also be interested to see what the improved 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile figures look like, too.

Bob,

You should probably get a used slk32 (r170) if you like that style. the slk 32 is amazingly fast, and is a much better starting point if you are serious about performance. the 230 is not bad, but why start from the bottom rung of the performance ladder? I'm quite sure the price difference between the 230 and the 32 is much less than the cost to mod the 230 up to 32 standards...at which point the 230 would be extremely stressed anyway, whereas the 32 still has space to go...

OUCH! LOL

But he is right.

If you have that kind of money to spend, I agree with him. Save the time and hassel and buy the power already there.
